The library in Mount Vernon has a special Genealogical Research Center, also, but I don't believe that they have any "research associate" assigned to look things up for people. It is staffed mostly by volunteers. Another site to search is www.heritagepursuit.com/Knox/KnoxIndex.htm. This is a searchable site that has put online several of the early "History of Knox County" books that are also available in the library. I have a copy of "Cemetery Records of Knox County, Ohio, Vol 1" (c 1991) which lists 28 people with surname Hollister. If you would like to send me a personal email ([email protected]), I would be happy to send you the information I have.

Could have sworn Byron said she passed. But then again we were in a public forum and I may have misunderstood. A bell is ringing in that Eva might have been a cousin or something to Bernard McMillan who was my Uncle. I remember a restaurant on the square as Mizers and another restaurant ran by the Amish. Also the Truex Service station and the barber shop. Its amazing that Byron is still alive! The Baker place you mentioned. Is that the Roger Baker place of the last 30 years? I seem to recall another Baker place nearer to the Grange but cannot make the connection. Sorry. BTW, Thank you Carole, for the history it is very interesting to me. Specially when in these days of reflection I try to connect the dots to people and places that have been a mystery for many decades. cal

He is 93, and his mind is still pretty sharp, but he has trouble getting around. Maxine runs the sporting goods shop that's across the street from the old Thompson's Restaurant and the current Knox Co. Bank on what is still referred to as "the square" in Danville. Marcella also lives near Danville, and is married to Kenny Blaisdell. Byron's wife was Eva McMillan, and she passed away in 2002. I'm the daughter of Alton Kirch and Mozell Baker. Mozell grew up on the AA Baker farm on Flat Run, near the grange. She was the daughter of Isaac Otto Baker and Ollie Agnes Russell, the grandaughter of Alvin Allen (AA) Baker and Druzilla Yearouse (daughter of Adam Yearouse and Margaret Stillinger). Dad and Mom lived in Danville from 1971 until their deaths (dad in 2000 and mom in 2003).

The Michael Gates family moved to Delaware County soon after the marriage and in the 1850's moved to Van Buren Co.,Michigan. Thanks for any help. Ray McAdams [email protected]

Byron and Dad were old friends and the last time I saw Byron was at Dad's funeral. That was in the mid 80's. I had no idea he was still alive. Byron had two daughters Maxine and Marcella. Maxine was married to Sheldon Hall (?) a Barber in Danville. He is deceased. I never new what happened to Marcella. Byron's wife(name not remembered) died in the 70's or 80's. Most interesting is how the Yearouse/Winteringer/Fernbaugh families all tie together and all were neighbors.

Their daughter Jane Ann Phillips married Michael Gates in Knox Co.,OH. Charles Phillips appears in Wayne Twp.,Knox Co. buying land in 1832. I believe he died soon after that date. I feel he is a brother or close relative to Richard Phillips b. 1796 in Sussex Co. John Gates, father of Michael Gates, first settled in Elizabeth,NJ about 1830, then moved to Knox Co.,and bought land in Wayne Twp.Knox Co., I noticed some of the Phillips in Knox Co., had their first children born in NJ in the early 1830's. The pattern of movement is very interesting. Can we share information? Ray McAdams [email protected]

I remember seeing some books in the Mount Vernon Genealogy Library. They were like a phone book (directory of who lived where). The book I am asking about is the 1919 - 1920's and I am looking for information on all Jessups that lived in Mount Vernon at that time. There was something in there about a Charles Jessup. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it very much. Thank you in advance for this Sue Bemiller

I am wondering if any of the judges in Knox county are up for re-election and if so please let me know how the elections come out. Nance
Would the person with the Cemeteries of Knox Co reference book (s) please look for McKenzie, John , d 1829. He has a (probate?) record in the book of Common Pleas but I have not found a burial record for him. They attended St Lukes in Danville but the church has no funeral record for him. Thank you. Rosanne
Rosanne Sorry, in the 'Cemetery Records of Knox County, Ohio Vol 1 & Vol II,' I don't show a John McKenzie/McKinzee/McKinstry. I think there is another cemetery book but don't know what it is.
