Hello fellow researchers, I wonder if there are descendants, or any connections/ties to the LEPLEY family who immigrated from Germany (1753) to Bedford Co, PA (now Somerset Co) and into Huron Co and Knox Co, OH (cir. 1806)on the mailing list? I have an extensive listing of LEPLEY's who various lines of my family are connected with. I have a number of LEPLEY's who I would like to connect with their proper lineage. I have some missing LEPLEY's that I would like to find. Perhaps we could exchange and share some family information that would be of help with both our research efforts. Thank you. I have a 2nd Cousin whose name is Charlene (Kierce) Lepley who lived in Loudonville, Ohio. Her husband was Steve Lepley. That is all I know. There is a recently published book available on the Koehler/Kaylor family, titled: "The Henry Koehler Family ... Cleve was born 22 Jul 1884 and died 17 Feb 1966. I have not been able to locate birth or death dates for Quin. According to the 1900 Census, she was born about 1887. I remember visiting them when I was little, so I know that she died after 1955. Anyone out there able to help me with birth or death dates?

Jean, In the book OHIO PHOTOGRAPHERS 1839-1900 by Dianne VanSkiver Gagel there is this information about Fred S. Crowell: "Fred S. Crowell (1844-?) was born in Huron County. He was a salesman in a bookseller and stationer's shop and later worked for a jeweler. His first position as a photographer was at the Payne gallery in Mount Vernon, where he stayed for one year. He worked at Benham's studio in Norwalk, then at Week's gallery in Sandusky for about eighteen months, then in galleries in Cleveland and Erie, Pennsylvania. He owned a gallery in Fredricktown, 1866-69, then is listed in Mt. Vernon, 1869-1889." I bought the book in hopes that I would find information about a pair of Mount Vernon photographers that I would like to know about. It contained no information on the photographers I was looking for. I have a photo of either my gr grandfather, Isaac Parsons, or my 3 gr grandfather, Isaac Parsons, that has the following on the back, "Spurgeon & McClain, Photographers, Woodward Building, Mount Vernon, Ohio." Knowing when these photographers were in business would help me figure out which Isaac Parsons is in the photo. I know that the Woodward Building is being restored and that opened in about 1851. If anyone could help me I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Janet Parsons

In fact, my next move might be from a house to a condo. I might be passing through Knox County in a week or two. If we have time on the way back, I might coerce her into looking around in the "Winterringer" neck of the woods.

And yes, the surname will be found spelled many different ways -- Winteringer - Winterringer - Wintringer. They're all the same clan. The immigrant Bernard landed at Philadelphia in 1753, married Sarah Chatwin there in 1760, lived a short while in Maryland and then moved to Northumberland Co., PA. About 1797 he moved his family to Jefferson Co., OH and there is a lot of information available on the family from historical accounts of Steubenville. One of their sons, Nathan, was quite well known for being a boat builder and having a thriving shipping business on the Ohio River. I now need to research which of their sons was Kenneth 's ancestor in Knox County. Having his father's name helps tremendously. I so appreciate all the information that you and Cal and others have given me. Isn't the internet a wonderful thing? Last night on PBS there was a panel discussing what the whole internet/computer situation will be in just 10 years, and it's unbelievable! Karen

More than likely they all knew each other most of their lives and lived within 5 miles of each other along Chestnut Ridge which rose above Flat Run Rd. to the west and paralleled U.S. 36 on the east side. Now Ohio 715. More interesting is how close these neighbors were but totally unconcerned of their ancestry or at least it was never really discussed openly, They were mostly busy with day to day life issues like crops, livestock, neighbors, weather, work, government interferance with the farmer. There was a lot of talk about that in the forties and fifties. Thank you Carole and Karen for allowing me to share some long gone faded memories of a great place to be a part of and isolated far into the hills that the purity of life still rings throughout the deep shady hollows and medows to this very day.
