    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Ora W. BOZMAN (spelled BOSMAN on back of photograph) of Urbana, OH and his family which was taken at the Biddle Studio in Urbana, OH. The photograph is dated 17 Apr 1909 and includes Ora and his wife along with 4 children ranging in age from infant to about 12 years. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Ora and his family: Ora Wilmot BOZMAN was b. 9 May 1875 in Ohio to parents Matthew William Madison BOZMAN (1846-1919) and Martha Ann HICKMAN (1850-1911). Ora was one of 10 children born to this couple including, Ora Wilmot; Mary Louise; Lena Belle; Minnie May; Nellie Eleanor; Ruth; Nola; Lola Gail; Charles Lawrence; and Eulalia Infant "Babe" BOZMAN, all born between 1875 and 1892. Ora's father was married previously and had three additional children including, William; Etton or Elton Henry; and Shadric BOZMAN all born between 1868 and 1874. Ora married Lavina Edith VOKE (b. 27 Nov 1877 in Logan Co. OH-d. 21 Jul 1939 in Mutual, OH). Lavina was the daughter of Ambrose McKendree McKendra VOKE (1840-1902) and Nancy Elizabeth WOODRUFF (1842-1910). Lavina was one of 7 children born to this couple including, Virgil F.; Minerva; Lavina; Nervina; Edith; Lawrence A.; and Nora VOKE, all born between 1867 and 1882. The couple had 6 children including, Norman Pearl; Lucy Marie; Paul J.; Martha; Leo; and Imo Ruth BOZMAN, all born between 1896 and 1916. Ora was living in Urbana, OH when he registered for the draft in 1918 listing his occupation as Railroad Mail Carrier. His wife was listed as Edith BOZMAN. Ora died 8 Nov 1956 in Knox, OH and is buried in the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Kennard, OH along with his wife Lavina. Their son Norman Pearl BOZMAN was b. 30 Sept 1896 in Kennard, OH and was married twice, first to Betty COMPTON (1899-1961) and they had two children including John O.; and Fern Louise BOZMAN born in 1918 and 1920 respectively. Norman's second marriage was to Bertha Lou STIENER with whom he had one additional child. Norman died 28 Jun 1953 in Ashville, OH. Their daughter Lucy Marie BOZMAN was b. 23 Sept 1902 in Urbana, OH and married Nereus Jefferson COX (1899-1964) and together they had three children. Lucy died 8 Oct 1997 in Urbana, OH and she is buried in the Oak Dale Cemetery in Urbana, OH. Their son Paul J. BOZMAN was b. 26 Oct 1904 in Ohio and married Mary Agnes SEWELL (1900-1990) and they had two children. Paul died 31 Jul 1969 in Columbus, OH. Their daughter Martha E. 2. I am sorry I cannot help, although there is a Kenyon family near me but I know nothing about them. Delores Durbin -----Original Message----- From: amyw <amyw@warrenpl.org> To: ohknox <ohknox@rootsweb.com> Sent: Mon, Jun 4, 2018 3:29 pm Subject: ([OHKNOX])Surname Shoutout- Kenyon/Heighton I have been stumped on this particular couple for years, and while I've posted inquiries here before, I thought maybe somebody's found something by now! Elizabeth Highton Kenyon was born March 1851 in Lancashire England to Thomas and Sarah Highton. Them emigrated to Summit County Ohio soon after. She married John Kenyon (family history says he was a John James but I have no proof of the middle name) 13 Dec 1869 in Summit county. Neither of them show up in the 1870 census, as far as I have found. I have very little info on John Kenyon, other then he does show up on the marriage certificate, as well as father on three birth records with Elizabeth, for Sarah Kenyon, born 26 Jan 1872 in Guernsey, OH, Minnie May, born 26 May 1874 in York, Athens OH, and John James (Jack) Kenyon, born 7 Jan 1878 in Barberton, Summit, OH. My last record for Elizabeth is in 1880, when she surrendered the two girls to the Fairmount Childrens Home. In the admissions records she lists her reason for surrendering the girls- the father, John Kenyon, has abandoned the family. I can't find any records for either parent after that. The youngest child, nicknamed Jack, was left with her parents, Thomas and Sarah Highton, and is on the 1880 census with them in Stark county, OH. Jack, who later took the last name of Heighton (an "e" gets added after 1900), is my 2xGreat-grandfather, who died in Knox county in 9 December 1911 from silicosis after working at Cooper Bessemer. The story that came down to us was that John and Elizabeth Kenyon sailed to England to check on inherited tin mines and were never heard from again. The Fairmount Children's Home records refute that legend however. I'd like to find out where John Kenyon came from, and what happened to Elizabeth after she surrendered her . Her first name is written in the bible as "Albertie" and "Alburttie" and then as "Bertie" with at least one entry seeming childlike as if the bible was hers from childhood. She also writes the following additional names on a page along with her own name: Thurlow BURGER Eliza BURGER Nettie BURGER Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: Alberta BURGER was b. 16 Nov 1867 in Knox Co. OH to parents Samuel BURGER (b. Apr 1816 in Washington Co. MD) and Eliza Ann MCCREARY (b. 6 Jan 1830 in Dauphin Co. PA). Alberta was one of 6 children born to this couple including, Rollin, Ellen, Thurlow D., Olive A.; Netta or Nettie Ann, and Alberta BURGER, all born between 1850 and 1867. Alberta died 2 Sept 1946 in Knox Co. OH and is buried in the Mound View Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, OH. Census records provide the following details: 1870 census of Mount Vernon, OH: Samuel BURGER, age 55, a Miller, born MD Eliza BURGER, age 30, Keeps House, born PA Ellen BURGER, age 19, born OH Thurlow BURGER, age 18, born OH Nettie BURGER, age 9, born OH Alberta BURGER, age 3, born OH 1880 census of Mount Vernon, OH: Thurlow BURGER, age 23, Works in Foundry, born OH, parents born MD/PA Nettie BURGER, sister, age 19, at Home, born OH, parents born MD/PA Bertie BURGER, sister, age 13, at School, born OH, parents born MD/PA 1900 census of Mt. Vernon, OH: Fredrick CLOUGH, age 41, born May 1859, married 13 years, born NY, parents born NY, a Jeweler Nettie CLOUGH, wife, age 39, born Aug 1860, married 13 years, no children, born OH, parents born OH Alberta BURGER, sister-in-law, age 32, born Nov 1867, born OH, parents born OH I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old bible can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

I have had the chance to visit Knox Co a couple of times in the distant past and found everyone so friendly and helpful. I have warm thoughts of the employees of the Court House! And the census taker could make mistakes. That includes the 1880 census. In KNOX County, in 1850 John & Hannah Woolford's daughter Lucy age 3 is listed as the Head Of Household for the next household. And in 1860, their two daughters' ages are switched. So why are we doing genealogy when all the data before us could be in error? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: gwk404 Surnames: Knapp Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.knox/3313.3.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Since you looked in the 1850 census for Ohio, you may have noticed that Luman Knapp was located a short distance away in the next county over - in Richland County. I believe I even pointed that out in a post which you responded to. Luman was a carpenter by profession. If the town where he lived was not growing, he may have picked up and moved to the next community - he might not care if it was in Knox County or Richland County or .... The simple fact is that Luman Knapp was in the 1840 census in KNOX COUNTY, OHIO with a large family PROFILE. He was a resident of KNOX COUNTY with probable two children marrying in KNOX COUNTY with a very possibly daughter who after her marriage in a different county, moved to KNOX COUNTY for 15 to 20 years. So how long and what type of presence does a KNOX COUNTY RESIDENT have to be in KNOX COUNTY to be considered to be a resident or for a descendant to query and explore in that county? Too bad you did not spend time research my family rather than showing that you have a beef with me. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. That is why we have to make intelligent 'guesses' per circumstantial evidence. Just guesses because a John or Lewis had a son William and they never lived close to Knox county, OH might not be an intelligent guess. BTW, are you saying that I should only put down Luman and Anna's children from the 1880 census since the possible children listed in the 1850 census could be step-children or adopted children? Do you know that there is a grave for George Knapp in Richland County, that says that he is the son of L & A who died in 1850? TEN YEARS before that George Knapp lived in KNOX COUNTY, OH with LUMAN and ANNA. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
