Ou may visit the archives at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/oh/jefferso.htm Terri FROM THE ARCHIVES JOHN BARNHILL, born in Jefferson County, Ohio, June 26, 1828, is a son of Robert Barnhill, a native of Ireland, who came to America when quite young. When he was seven years old his parents removed to Coshocton County, where he lived till twenty-one years of age. He then came to Athens County and lived a short time, and then went to Wayne County, Ill., returning after three years to Carthage. He was married Feb. 17, 1859, to Margaret Swiss, of Carthage Township. They have eight children - Elizabeth C., John W., Burgett, Louisa J., Rosilla, Sarah E., Samuel and Catharine F. Mr. Barnhill received but a limited education in his youth, but by careful observation and study he has acquired a good practical education.
