Does any body know what a "Break of Promise" (marriage)" is? I found it on a D.A.R. application showing there was one between Wm. McLennan and Martha Saltsman. The application says it exists in Jefferson County but when I called the Jefferson County Courthouse they didn't seem to know what it was. I wonder if it is different than a "divorce" or if it was just the words they used at the time to avoid using "divorce."
