Hi, Following is a message from Rootsweb regarding changes in mailing list policy. This change will NOT affect this list because it has been closed since its inception. In other words, only list subscribers may post to this list. I felt that I should post the message to this list since you may hear about it on other lists that it does affect. Now in order to post to a RootsWeb- hosted mailing list, first you must subscribe to the list (send SUBSCRIBE message to <[listname]-L-request@rootsweb.com>). This policy became necessary because the volume of spam that was being sent through our lists had reached a phenomenal level. Worse, some users had begun to send spam complaints to sites that were completely unrelated to RootsWeb, but could kill our network connection if they received too many complaints. Closing the lists to non-subscribers became a matter of self-preservation. Because spammers seldom subscribe to the lists they spam, by limiting posting privileges to subscribers we should eliminate almost all spam. The rare spam that still leaks through should be reported to: <abuse@rootsweb.com> and NO other site.
