Hello, I was just checking out some of the things at the NARA website, and I found two items that might be of interest to this list. I'll describe the other in a second note. The first is a scanned image of a petition to the Congress entitled: "Memorial from the ladies of Steubenville, Ohio, protesting Indian removal." It is dated Feb. 15, 1830, according to the description. At the bottom are the signatures of a number of women. Some of the surnames are NORTON, WILSON, WOODS, BEATTY, ROGERS and more. It's hard to read all of them. If one of your ancestors is there, you'll see her signature. But even if you don't find one, or have any there at that time, it's worth a look though, just because of the clarity and the content and the age!! To see the petition, follow these steps: 1. Go to http://www.nara.gov/nara/searchnail.html 2. Select "NAIL Digital Copies Search" 3. Search using the following parameters: Keywords: "Steubenville" Media Type: "All Media" NARA Unit: "Center for Legislative Archives (Washington, D.C.)" 4. Click on 'Submit Search', and you should have one result, the petition. 5. Select 'Display results'. Only 100 sessions can be active at one time, so if you can't get to NAIL, try again later. Enjoy!
