The 1840 Census of Buffalo, NY lists Colonel James M. Bankhead and a quantity of 671individuals ranging from age 1 to 60 under his responsibility. Unfortunately, the census does not list each of these barracks residents by name....only by quantity. However, The Buffalo Barracks Historical Web Site has made available, free of charge, the names of all officers and soldiers, and some of their wifes and dependants, who lived at this early federal military post on the Niagara Frontier.
