    3. I am looking for information on any Irish GREENWOODS or MCCRORYs living in Jefferson Co., OH in the early-mid 1800's. We have so many mysteries to solve that this may be the only way. My Joseph GREENWOOD emigrated to the US from Ireland in late1845 according to application for citizenship. He ended up in Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio from then until about 1853 when he moved to Iowa where he spent the rest of his life. He moved with Judge WILSON, a prominent lawyer, to Iowa. He may have been a bonded servant living with Judge WILSON during the time he spent in Steubenville as no records show up in his name. He is living in the same house with Judge Wilson after arriving in Iowa for the first year according to a city directory. Joseph was b. Feb 1823 and appears to have had a brother AND a cousin, both named Hugh GREENWOOD and both b. abt 1828. Other siblings may have come too but so far I haven't been able to find any. Joseph and both Hughs are buried in Union Cemetery in Steubenville. All of their bodies were brought to this cemetery from out of state, but records of origin are lost so we do not know where the two Hughs were brought from. Joseph was married for nearly 50 years in Iowa, and his wife is buried there, but his body was brought back to Ohio for burial beside a woman named Lillie MCCRORY b.1839-40(married to Thomas B. Taylor) who was also from Ireland and has a definite link to Joseph, possibly a niece or a ward of his. Joseph's funeral was held in her home prior to burial. One of the Hughs is also buried beside him. I feel there must have been a pact made between the three of them to be buried together. I would like to talk to anyone who has information on Irish GREENWOODs or MCCRORYs who emigrated around the 1840-1850 time frame. I have other information to share on these families. I am sorry for such a long posting, but it is a long story!! Thanks. Karla staudt@cptelco.net
