Rarely do we get physical descriptions of our ancestors - thought a HARDY researcher might enjoy the following extraction from the Wed., July 20, 1853, pg. 3 American Union Newspaper: Colvin I. HARDY of Cross Creek Twp. called in our office on Saturday and subscribed for the "Union". He is not quite 20 years of age, stands 6 feet four and 3 quarter inches in his stockings and weighs 231 pounds. He is a house painter by trade and has this advantage over his rivals, that he rarely needs a ladder to do his work. Withal Mr. Hardy is a democrat and if not now will be the strongest one in the county in a year or two.
