    1. Re: My surnames from Jefferson County
    2. Dear Audrey, I happened to notice your surname list and thought it was rather amazing! I am descended from Bates, Haynes, and Greer as well!! I would sure like to compare our families and see if we're connecting to the same lines! I am from a Daniel Bates, father of Ephram Bates. Ephram was born 1821, probably in OH. Daniel was born in PA, but I'm not sure when - some say 1789. Ephram's daughter Valinda was my ancestor. She was born 1860 in OH. They were in what is now Noble County, but I'm not certain is was Noble county then. Ephram and his wife had 8 children according to what I have. They were James, Susanna, Janes, Amanda, Daniel, William, Valinda and Martha. Are any of these yours? I'd love to share info - maybe we can help each other fill in some blanks! As for the Haynes and Greer lines - They were both in VA when I know of them. I have an Elizabeth Greer, possible father Charles, who married my Joseph Underwood. I don't know much about the Greer line at all. Elizabeth was born ca 1800-1810. My Haynes line is sketchy as well - it begins with Barbara Haynes, who was born ca 1800, and her father is unknown - maybe a Henry. Barbara married into the Tincher line. She and her husband John T. Tincher, lived in Greenbrier and Monroe Counties. Any thing familiar to you?? Hoping to hear from you! I have some more Bates information that I'd be happy to share with you if this is your line as well!! Let me know - Sincerely, Tracy in WA State
