Hi Anna, I'm sorry but I don't have anything at this time to connect the two families. I was thinking that William Rankin might have married one of James Smith's daughters. What you sent me would rule that out. I have been trying to trace a William Smith from Washington County, PA for several months. I found some information that a William Smith deeded some land in Jefferson County, OH, 10 Aug 1809. He was living at the time in Washington Co., PA. I have a feeling that James and Matthew were brothers and William and Catherine were their parents. Please keep me updated on anything your daughter comes up with and I will do the same.
