TO ANYONE WHO HAS ACCESS TO RECORDS: I have reached a dead-end in my DURBIN research with the last documented ancestor I could find being THOMAS L.C. DURBIN (the name as recorded on his gravestone at the cemetery next to the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church and on his marriage license at Jefferson County, OH courthouse. He was born 28 Apr, 1816 and died 25 Sep, 1876. He married CATHERINE HENRY (b. 03 Jun 1824, d. 27 Apr, 1864). It appears that he married MARGARET HOOPER on 12 Jan, 1865, after his first wife's death, and later on 28 Nov, 1875, probably after the second wife's death, he married BELL PUGH on 28 Nov, 1875. (These latter two marriages give his name as Thomas L. Durbin, and there is little doubt that they are one and the same person.) THOMAS L.C. Durbin, b. 13 Feb, 1847, d. 26 Mar, 1864 (Mt. Pleasant) Lemuel H. Durbin (Sometimes the name is mistakenly given as Samuel H. Durbin, Lemuel is correct.) b. 08 Sep, 1848, Married ANNA SHEPHERD 10 Dec, 1868 (by the above mentioned Rev. J. L. Scott in Mt. Pleasant), d. 02 Jul, 1910 Robert P. Durbin, b. 27 Jun, 1850, married SARAH SPENCER (no date or place given), d. 18 Jun, 1916. William B. Durbin, b. 22 Mar, 1852, married LIDA PORTER, d. 22 Dec, 1887. Joshua B. Durbin, b. 03 May, 1854, married NINN ROBY, d. 22 Jun, 1868. James T. Durbin, b. 23 May, 1856, d. 22 Jun 1868 Mary Elthisa (sic) (Elizabeth ? ) Durbin, b. 09 Feb, 1858 Margaret Caroline Durbin, b. 07 Jan, 1862, d. 26 Feb, 1865 Isaac Riley Durbin, b. 15 Mar, 1864, d. 14 Apr 1864. (NOTE: Catherine (Henry) Durbin died 27 Apr, 1864 of measles shortly after her infant son died of measles at 1 month of age.) John Presley Durbin was my g-grandfather. My grandfather was John Francis Durbin was born 23 Jan, 1878. My father was Raymond Francis Durbin, b. 15 Nov, 1906. I need to know who the parents of THOMAS L. C. DURBIN were and where he was born. I cannot find a record of his being born in Jefferson County. If anyone has records for Guernsey County, OH or other adjoing counties, there could possibly be a record. I believe that if I can find who my g-g-g-grandfather was, the puzzle should fit together. It has been suggested that a CHRISTOPHER DURBIN or his son LAWRENCE DURBIN, having both been in Jefferson County in the early 1800's, might be the missing ancestor.
