    3. Hello All, Noticed Sue's mention of towns in Jeff. Co., OH which no longer exists. I remember back around 1994, the late Judy Dobzinski of the Ohio Room at Schiappa was collecting the registered towns and plot maps which appear in the Jeff. Co., OH's early deed books. Many wonderfully named towns, some later changing names, which Judy was going to put in book form for reference in the Ohio Room. Example: In Deed Book E, pg 405, list a Ausburn with 40 lots, dated November 29th, 1815 founded by a John Hammond. And later in Deed book G, pg. 428, dated 10 April 1820, Mr. Hammond comes before the Court of Common Pleas and files his petition, "praying to have said Town of Ausburn vacated, in the words and figures following . . . . (he) purchased back all the said certificates and gave notice in the Western Herald and Steubenville Gazette, in the said town of Ausburn and on the court house doors in Steubenville according to law." Unless you were a Bezeleel Wells or someone of fame, many of these towns did not survive. Or perhaps lack of a good water supply or roads leading to town pronounced doom for these forgotten haunts. Those deed books on microfilm are filled with these lost towns all around our country. Don't forget to submit your "found and lost towns" to the OH GEN WEB site who is requesting such material. And provide them a Deed Book and page. And I'm interested as well in listing them on the JCC OGS site if they pertain to Jefferson Co., OH. Julia Krutilla fkrutill@weir.net
