Sarah, I just sent the address of the SS to the list..look for it. Yes any one in the 1940's should of had a SS number, depending how old they were. IF they didn't work they wouldn't have one. I don't know when it became mandatory to have a SS number, but when my granddaughter was born in 1979 she had to have one, and her mother filled out the application in the hospital..
