    1. Old Photographs - Care of Tintypes
    2. Does anyone out there have experience with handling old tintypes? I have found four of them in a box in my basement. Of the four, one looks like it will scan well. We'll see about the others which are very dark. In some cases these tintypes look like they are dirty. Is there any way to clean them before scanning? I don't want to ruin them by using the wrong method. Gloria

    3. Sometimes the "dirty" appearance of a tintype is due to dust that is coating the inside of its glass in the frame. However, if they are not in frames or behind glass, anything that attempts to clean the tintype would probably damage it in some way. Carefully removing a tintype from a frame and cleaning the glass can often work wonders in appearance. Sometimes there is a little mildew on the glass, too. Good luck.
