I believe they both lived in Jefferson Co and were married 18 Sept. 1845. She was the daughter of Nicholas PORTER who appears in the 1840 census in Jefferson Co. His parents are unknow. This has long been a brick wall and any help or information on these famlies will be greatly appreciated . W. A. Davis

Hi, I am also researching the PORTER's in Jefferson Co.. My gg grandmother was Rachel PORTER her parents are unknown. All I know was she and her parents were born in Maryland according to the Federal Census. She married my gg grandfather, Thomas KIRKPATRICK, in Jefferson Co on Feb 8, 1842. They later moved to Wheeling WV where my g grandfather was born in 1848. By 1850 Federal Census they are listed on the Jackson Co VA census. I have often wondered if Rachel was connected to Nicholas PORTER but have not researched it completely. If my memory is working this morning I believe a Nicholas PORTER was listed in the Jackson Co VA census and they were from the Jefferson Co OH area. Need to look at the info to be sure.
