Cheryl, you said that you can do Meigs County. I have a Gr. Grandfather who came from Meigs County to Jefferson County, Ohio. He was born in July 1865 according to the 1900 census of Jefferson County. When he died he had been in Steubenville for 27 years. He passed away in 1910 . He had been married to my Gr. Grandmother (Bird or Lizzie or Elizabeth McCurdy (Bristor) for 25 years. She was from Jefferson County (Steuvenville) By doing the math I assume (which you should never do) that he must have come to Steubenville around 1883. Anyhow, I made a trip to Meigs County last summer but didn't have a lot of time. I live in NW Ohio and had to get moving on down the road. Fell in love with the little town of Pomeroy and did as much searching as I could. I could find no mention of James LaFayette Wilson. I always wondered if he had come from across the river but his obit said he came from Meigs County. As a side note, several years my Gr. Grandmother disappeared from Steubenville and was mentioned that she resided in Geauga County and was using the name of Bird Hicks. You talk about a mystery. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. ----- Original Message ----- From: "cheryl enyart" <trayne1837inc@yahoo.com> To: <OHJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 08, 2003 9:29 AM Subject: [OHJEFFER] An apology > Dear list members, > I want to apologize to the members of this list. My comments to my new cousins was not an intentional slur on anyone. I have been trying to find my greatgrandmother for over 25 years. I just never was able to make the connection to anyone. Matter of fact I was not sure whether Mary E. Daniels was her married or maiden name since she had a son William Daniels. > As in everything I assumed that it was a married name and had looked up William to see if I could find out who his parents were. Able to accomplish this I turned to the fact that it might have been her name and that she had not been married. I think that I was unable to find her because the time was not right. I believe that everything works out for a purpose. The day I posted to this list was the day that Mary , Kitty and Robert had just updated their rootsweb post. I found it and was over joyed when they confirmed my suspicions. I immediately looked for Jesse Daniels in the Gallia County census. > I found out all of Mary's siblings, and other folks from PA with the Daniels name. > I am overjoyed at the fact I have 3 lovely new people to claim as living relatives. My father is the last of his family. He is 82 years old. I have add 3 generations to my chart. > I took a chance and it turned out great. That is what it is all about. Chances that we take. If our relatives had known that we would be looking for them way back then, maybe they would have left us more clues. I enjoy a great mystery. > I extend a hand of friendship to all of you. Let us put this experience behind us. > Let us not assume that someone is unskilled or skilled in doing research. Let us not preach but help with info. If you need advice on how to search or where to search then ask for it. > If anyone has relatives in the southeastern part of the state, Meigs, Gallia, Lawrence, Jackson, VInton don't hesitate to either email me or get on those lines. We are extremely active on these list and you will find helpful people with great information. > I do obit lookups in the Gallia County area and can do the Meigs County lookups. > I like to end with this Be proud of the place in which you live, and live so that they can be proud of you. > Have a great future, I remain , Cheryl Ann Thomas Enyart, VP of the Galllia County Genealogical Society. > > > > --------------------------------- > Do you Yahoo!? > The New Yahoo!
