http://www.rootsweb.com/~quakers/hopewell.htm This page shows Thomas Babb, grandfather of Peter Babb as being one of the "Fathers of the First Quaker Colony in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia" He is also mentioned as such on page 357 of the Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy, Vol VI Also in that volume on page 362 are several Babb listings. These are listed in a section called "Hopewell Monthly Meeting". Thomas Babb was a pioneer of Frederick County, Virginia and his home near Winchester still stands. (At least it did the last time I read about it.) From BABB FAMILIES OF AMERICA by Jean A. Sargent, page 49: In Nov 1735 THOMAS (2) received a Patent to 600 acres of land on Applepie Ridge in Frederick Co., VA, near Winchester. Under the conditions of the Patent, the land had to be occupied, three acres of every fifty cleared and cultivated, and certain yearly payments made to an agent of the King. THOMAS (2) chose his sons THOMAS, JR. and PHILIP to carry out the provisions of the Patent. "Thomas (3) was a Quaker, as was his father, and on 3, 1, 1736 his certificate of Membership was transferred from the Kennett Monthly Meeting to the Hopewell MM, of which THOMAS was one of the founding fathers." The latter Thomas was my husband's 5th Great Grandfather. He lived in New Castle County, Delaware - then in Bethel Twp. in Chester County, Pennsylvania - then apparently to Frederick County, Virginia. Then with the patent, he moved to Ohio.
