    1. [OHJEFFER] Folger, Ladd, Smithfield, Jefferson County, Ohio
    2. Bonnie Hamilton
    3. Researching: Elizabeth FOLGER born circa. 1820 died December 1867, married James Denson Ladd (1820-1905). Looking for the actual birth of this Elizabeth. Elizabeth is the daughter of Mayhew FOLGER (1774-1828) and Mary JOY (1778-1858) from Nantucket, MA, by way of Philadelphia, PA. Nantucket vital records state that Elizabeth, daughter of Mayhew and Mary Joy Folger married James D Ladd of Smithfield, Ohio. Ladd records state that the marriage was in 1842. Nantucket vitals also state that Elizabeth, daughter of Mayhew and Mary Folger was born in 1803. This child would have been not only 17 years older than James Ladd, but would have been too old to be the mother of his children. It is very possible that the first daughter Elizabeth died at a young age and another daughter born closer to 1820 is the one who married James Ladd. It is also possible that the date 1803 is an error and should read 1813 or 1823, or another date which would be more consistent with a marriage date of 1842. According to Nantucket vitals, in 1810 Mayhew Folger moved his family to Philadelphia, and in 1813 they moved to Ohio. The information in the Nantucket Vital records books on this branch of the Folger family is taken from family papers, not church records, and may not be complete, or there could be errors. James Denson Ladd (1820-1905) is the son of Benjamin Whitehead Ladd (1782-1851) and Elizabeth Wood (1788-1832). I have extensive research on both these families posted on rootsweb worldconnect: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=tibart Bonnie Ladd Hamilton tibart@alum.wellesley.edu
