    3. There were still Smileys in Steubenville in 1850....the following are in the Steubenville Directory of 1850. William J. listed as a cotton Worker at 3rd above Market. James, listed at 6th below Adams. The Spencer Ledger a mercantile index from 1804-1844 has another possible; Smally, John, a young man lives at Henry Emmons on big Yellow Creek 2 miles from the mouth; Mrs Henry Emmons enters his security. also in the Spencer Ledger; Lewis, Mrs Elizabeth (widow) (also Jacob Fickes)* ; Joseph, Tavern keeper. (this is strange, for it appears that there is a Mrs. Elizabeth Lewis, a widow....and, also a Joseph, tavernkeeper, when Joseph should be dead if Elizabeth is a widow * Jacob Fickes...brother to Widow Lewis ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alex & Martha Cosmidis" <acoz@nc.rr.com> To: <OHJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 06, 2003 3:32 PM Subject: [OHJEFFER] Lewis, Smith, Smiley > I am going to submit my family interest again: > > Joseph Lewis m Elizabeth Smith July 12, 1795 Place unknown > > Eli Lewis b. 1796 > William b. 1798 > Mary b. 1800 > Eliza b. 1804 (in Ohio) > > > Joseph Lewis operated a tavern in Steubenville until his death in January > 1807 leaving a widow and 4 children above..Records show G.
