I would suggest you talk with your father about his family. Surely he would know where his father died and when, at least the year. The year would enable you to contact the county where his father died and obtain a death certificate, which would give you valuable family info, such as -where he and even his parents were born, etc. Then, with the full date of death you could also obtain filmed newspapers from the Ohio Historic Center, in Columbus, through interlibrary loan...... searching for an obituary, which also contain family data. Generally, what you find about one generation may well lead you to the preceding one, with things to follow up on. ----- Original Message ----- From: "cheryl enyart" <trayne1837inc@yahoo.com> To: <OHJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, October 02, 2003 10:19 AM Subject: [OHJEFFER] Jesse Daniels > I would like some information on the Jesse Daniels family. If this work is not under copyright (anything published before 1923 is in the public domain), why don't you submit it to the Jefferson County genweb archives. That way it would be available to ANYONE searching the archives for the county. I always encourage folks on my own rootsweb gen lists to send ANY factual info of this sort there - the idea being to get the most information to the most people, either now or later. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jane Pinkerton" <jane.pinkerton@gte.net> To: <OHJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 29, 2003 1:55 PM Subject: Re: [OHJEFFER] "Pathfinders" book > Dear All: > > Regarding the discussion of the book "Pathfinders of Jefferson County > Ohio" which was taken from the Ohio "Archaeological and Historical > Publications" Volume 6, it appears that family names mention in volume > 6 were not adequate, so the same publication, Volume 8 was issued to > correct that. Dear All: Regarding the discussion of the book "Pathfinders of Jefferson County Ohio" which was taken from the Ohio "Archaeological and Historical Publications" Volume 6, it appears that family names mention in volume 6 were not adequate, so the same publication, Volume 8 was issued to correct that. I have a xeroxed copy of Volume 8 in which the introduction states that "This supplement to the Pathfinders of Jefferson County (a paper on the early settlements of Eastern Ohio, inspired by the celebration of the centennial of establishment of Jefferson County, August 24, 25 and 26, 1897), was commenced with the view of correcting errors in the main publication, issued by the State Historical Society (Vol. 6)................" The copy that I have is reproduced from an original in Sons of the Revolution Library, Glendale CA. There are 160 pages to this "correction", but I have two pages on each page. So if anyone is interested in this, I would be willing to have it copied (probably about 5 cents per page). The link to the Workage Cem. page is; http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4288998323 Jean
List Today Jim and I visited the small Workage Cemetery high on a hill at the edge of Amsterdam, in Springfield Twp. The only way to reach this cemetery is with 4 wheel drive or by foot. I preferred the first option, with Jim at the wheel away we went. It is located on private property and permission must be gotten to go up. Jean
Does anyone on the list have access to the book by W.H. Hunter entitled "The Pathfinders of Jefferson county, Ohio"published by the Ohio Archaeological and Historical Society, Vol.6. 1900.? I presume Flora does, since she quoted it in the newsletter. I was wondering if any of the names I am researching as mentioned.;;GILLESPIE, FRANCIS, AND BOALS. The OGS Library does not have a copy, and I am curious as just what is contained in it. Evidently there are many volumes. I got copies of several deeds of land with the Gillespie and Francis names when I visited in Aug.. I wish I had had more time! Ann Atherton
Dear Ann, I have a copy of this book which I purchased from Higginson Book Company, Salem Massachusetts. Unfortunately, my copy at least does not have and index, so I can't just look up a name. Do you know anything more about these families which might help in locating information about them in this book? If so, I will try to skim it for those surnames. Looking for any info. for Farmer Family thanks Leslie.
I am new to this list and I hope someone will be able to help. My Grandmother had her funeral service in Amsterdam, Ohio. It was at the Sweeney Funeral Home, the clergyman was Rev. M. Leroy Antram. Date of death was February 22, 1951. I have tried to find the funeral home listing but can't seem to be abe to locate it, so maybe they have gone out of business or changed names. I would really like to know where their records are so I can find out who arranged the funeral services. My Grandparents had lived in Jewett, Oh and during their last years lived in Germano, Oh. Since I lived with them almost all of my childhood (due to illness) I don't think they ever lived in Amsterdam. What I am hoping for is close family members lived there and arranged everything. This is the information: Grandmothers name: Anna May BIBEY, maiden name - husband given name - Alfred - PHILLIPS. Father - Elijah Phillips - Mother - maiden name - Anna Eliza DOULING If anyone has any information or knows someone with the surname PHILLIPS (because my Great Grandfather family was from Ohio) or BIBEY - DOULING - I would really appreciate hearing from you. It is so strange because my Grandmother died in a hospital in Wheeling, West Virginia, funeral service were conducted in Amsterdam and she was buried in Chartiers Cem,Carnegie, Pa. I just don't understand it all and the only conclusion I arrive at is FAMILY. Since I haven't been able to gather much information I am keeping my fingers crossed someone will recognize one of the names. Thank you, Alice California
Is there any mention of Francis Price or any Kinder families? Laura
Was sent this site by a friend and it is well worth a look at. the link is; http://digital.library.pitt.edu/pittsburgh/ Historic Pittsburgh It contains alot of different histories for the western Pa counties. Enjoy Jean
Eric, I checked the Index to Jefferson County Lines Newsletters, and in Spring sand Summer of 1991 there was an "extraction article'" that also continued in Spring of 1992 pg 3. The extractions were from "Early Residences of Jefferson County, Vol A. 1788-1806 and 1788-1812... do you have those newsletter back issues? If not, it might be worth it to back order those. You can check the website at: www.jeffcochapter for contact information... There are several indexes that might be of interest for you to have a look at as well. Hope this helps... many sources for that time period have "perished."
