(apologies to Carol; I forgot that this list is set to send to individuals, and not the whole list upon reply; sems every list I'm on is different!) My particular brick wall stops after one Thomas Pope, who appears in the 1820 Jefferson Co. census, in Warren township. He is shown there as being born between 1800 and 1810; he and his family later moved on to Tuscarawas Co, then Coshocton. By 1830 he was married to Elizabeth Case; she died sometime before October of 1839, when he remarried Elizabeth Burris Carns. Thomas and the first Elizabeth were the parents of my great grand father, Joseph Pope, plus several other children--Israel, Abel, John, Thomas, Elizabeth, and Mary Jane being the ones I know the names of. Elizabeth Case I have no further information on; she may have been related to William Case, another 1820s Jefferson County resident. Thomas is theoretically the son of John Pope, of Jefferson Co (1820 census, Salem township), who appears to have had a brother named George--both were in Jefferson Co by 1810, with George appearing in Harrison Co. bt 1830. I have no idea where they came from (although my grandmother always maintained the family 'came from the Chesapeake'), names of these two men's wives, or the names of other children, on another other information other than they were early settlers of the area. Thomas, by the way, is shown in various censuses as being born in OH, PA, MD, and VA, sometime between 1790 and 1810. It's almost like someone used the 'throw a dart at the dartboard' method of getting information...
SEARCHING FOR JOSEPH JEFFRIES, early 1800s.
Thought the idea of posting/reposting surnames a good one. Haven't done it in a while. Surnames proven for First Families of Jefferson County: Megrail, Cole, Talbott, Merriman, Blackburn, Farquhar, Crawford, Phillips, Jones. The following are some of my Jefferson County ancestors: COX -- Stuck at Jacob COX (c1807-1873), son of Elisha COX (c1760-1839). If the census can be believed, they probably traveled from MD via PA to Jefferson Co. SEALS -- Jacob's wife was Julia Ann SEALS (1808-c1880). I've found a Thomas SEALS who might be a brother. No other information on Julia except marriage and kids. DAVIS -- Margaret DAVIS (1840-1881), wife of Wesley COX (1834-1902). I've been unable to find parents or siblings for Margaret yet. My uncle Charles COX (1912-1992) remembered going to a DAVIS home in Chandler when he was young. I'm working on that! PHILLIPS-- Back to Robert (c1795-1862) and Ruth CRAWFORD PHILLIPS and believe John PHILLIPS was Robert's father. However, OGS would not accept my proofs for First Families so I am still looking for info there. KELLAR/KELLER -- Ann KELLAR (1834-1873) is wife of Elijah PHILLIPS (1834-1897). Ann's parents and siblings elude me. I am trying to determine if Peter KELLER of Carroll and Harrison counties is father. Any help on these mysterious folks who have no parents appreciated. Willing to exchange data on families. Kathryn Cox

Names I'm interested in are: Joshua RINE who married Mary RALSTON in 1823 -- finding Mary's parents and identifying all the children of this couple; also have questions about parentage of Joshua MCINTIRES who migrated to Jefferson Co from Brooke Co VA in early 1800s -- parents were Robert and Ann Hyatt McIntire RISINGER -- would like help identifying any Jefferson Co person with this name; am especially interested in trying to find them in early 1800's tax records DUVALL or DeVOLL -- Robert McIntire Jr married Elizabeth Duvall abt 1823 and I would like documentation as to who her parents were. She did have a brother, William who is buried beside her in cemetery in New Alexandria. I am guessing that she is the dau of Ben and Sarah Thompson Duvall who migrated to Brooke Co VA from MD, but have no documentation. Would also like to identify Virginius Duvall and his brother who can be found in the Rine household in a 1850 census. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, Janet Currie
Jean, I noticed you have PHILLIPS in your surname list, my great grandfather was Elijah Phillips, my great grandmother was Anna Eliza DOULING-PHILLIPS. Elijahs father was Robert Phillips and his mother was Ruth Crawford. Anna Eliza Phillips is one of my brick walls. I lost her after the 1910 census. Let me know if any of this pertains to any of family would you? I am always trying to follow any lead. Alice California

I am researching the Daniels family. Thanks to many people on this list I was able to find Mary E. and 3 generations back. It is funny that I also read an article on USGENWEB-OH about John T. Daniels. He built steamboats. This is so curious because my father is so into the history of the river .. He was a journalist and wrote a column in the Gallipolis newspaper called Fifty Years ago On the River. I am in the process of working on a book of these columns. It makes you wonder if we don't pass these things down in the DNA or are predisposed to such activities. cheryl thomas enyart Gallipolis, ohio --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
