I am still looking for information on my family. Believed to have originally been Hind. Others went through Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana ,etc. My direct ancestory was in Beaver County, PA after the Revolution, but may have been descendent from Chester, PA, -- Albemarle, Augusta Counties in VA. Family members migrated through VA, PA, KY, TN, AL, AR, IN, & OH. Early names were James, William, Thomas, John, Samuel. At Beaver County, PA (Sewickley and N. Sewickley) John Hind - Revolutionary War [fifer] John, jr., George, Peter, and Jacob. Also Sampson and others. Related families included PIERSOL and OLDHAM. Descendents were known to have moved through Ohio to Jennings (and surrounding) Counties, IN in the 1830/40 time frame. Included John, jr., Sampson (at least one with that name.), My great great grandfather Jason (also a John) who moved with his family into North Western Indiana. His wife Catherine (Oldham) and some Children are burried in Hemphill Cemetery. Jason died in Remington, IN. My great grandfather and some of his brothers (Includes Roark and George) served in the Civil war from that area. Hello Randal, Saw your query regarding the land of Henry's land on Tomlinson Run. One would really need to visit the Hancock Co., and Brooke Co., and perhaps even the Ohio Co., WV/VA courthouses and work the land deeds. Unfortunately, I don't know of an indexed book on the early land deeds of this area - don't believe it exists and am not even sure what microfilm you could rent from AGLL to do research in your home town library. Perhaps someone else can help with Hancock land deeds and what is available in print. I did check my brother, Craig C. Heaton's book, "Building Blocks, Tomlinson Run, The Early Years 1987" which is really about all the mills located on Tomlinson run. (Only item in my house). It provides the land grants made by Lord Fairfax pior to the creation of the Virginia Land Office and give these names for the area: 1789-1791 Pentacost or Penticost, Dorsey Blackburn, John Caruthers, Sam'l J. Ezekeil Cowan, Alexander Cowan, Hugh and William Cowan, John McGehan, Duncan Murphy, Cornelius Nessley, Jacob Suggest you contact the Tri-State Genealogical Society, New Manchester and the Hancock Co., WV Gen Web which may help you with your ancestors who lived along Tomlinson Run. Good Luck, Julia
Hello Kathy, Regarding the information on the Pennsylvania Vital Records which gives the dates 1700 - 1800. I'd suggest visiting the Heritage Books Web Site and viewing what information is provided or even write to the Email address given for more detailed information. http://www.heritagebooks.com/ Both Heritage and Borderbund have their CDs listed on this site with some information. You can also receive a catalog by mail or Email - one of my favorites as you can learn much by reading the books for sale. Julia __________ <Can you tell me the end date for the Penn vital records CD? Are the late 1800's (1875 - 1899) included? Also does it cover the entire state? Thanks Kathy>
Dear Researchers of the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia and Jefferson County, Ohio, Henry Critser owned fifty acres in Brooke County, [West] Virginia in 1802. The land is now in Hancock County. The tract was on the waters of "Tumbleston Run", which, as researcher Dale Patterson suggests, must be a jumbled spelling of TOMLINSON Run, in the area of New Manchester. The source for this information is The Brooke County Archives. Henry Critser's will was dated 17 Jul 1806. The source is "Will Abstracts of Brooke County". The text of the will mentions Henry Critser's wife, though not by name. Sons were Peter and John. Daughters were Lancy, Hannah, Kitty, Leah, Mary, Charity, Sarah and Agness. Executors were Anthony Middleswart and William Williamson. John Edie was a witneess. Note: Peter Critser lived his last years in Jefferson County, Ohio. Peter Critser died 27 Sep 1839 in Ross Township, Jefferson County, Ohio, and was buried in Bacon Ridge Cemetery. Queries: Can you help me locate Henry Critser's fifty-acre tract on Tomlinson Run more precisely? Please contact me if you have researched the persons named in this message. Thank you for your help. Sheila, Unfortunately, Schiappa Library does not have the facilities to research by internet. It is a rather small library, but has an impressive collection for genealogy. Those CD's are available in most genealogical catalogs and available purchase by anyone. I always see them at the conferences, too. You might check and see if a local genealogical library or friend has any CDs which you view. Good luck, Julia
Julia, Can a researcher request a look up in one of the new CD's via the internet? Thanks in advance. Sheila Casper casperfamily@mosquitonet.com

I have just found my great great grandparents buried in the Seceders Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, and am trying to find out what I can about this sect. Apparently they were formed in 1733, when a group seceded from the Presbyterian church of Scotland, in a disagreement over the selection of ministers. Some came to this continent, and, in 1809, a church was started in Mt. Pleasant. Does anyone know anything of this church, or have any ideas where I might find out more....I'm particularly interested in finding a listing of the early church members at Mt. Pleasant. Sandra
