They have grand juries back then and the transcript of the trail would be found in the Common Pleas Journals. You may want to write the; PUSKARICH PUBLIC LIBRARY; 200 EAST MARKET ST.; CADIZ,OH.43907 and ask them to check; SUPREME COURT CASES OF HARRISON COUNTY, 1814-1832. This is a published record that the Harrison Co. Gene. Soc. did. Not sure if we have it in our library or not but well check. If you would want to email me privately with the name I well check. 3. Hello All, Noticed Sue's mention of towns in Jeff. Co., OH which no longer exists. I remember back around 1994, the late Judy Dobzinski of the Ohio Room at Schiappa was collecting the registered towns and plot maps which appear in the Jeff. Co., OH's early deed books. Many wonderfully named towns, some later changing names, which Judy was going to put in book form for reference in the Ohio Room. Example: In Deed Book E, pg 405, list a Ausburn with 40 lots, dated November 29th, 1815 founded by a John Hammond. And later in Deed book G, pg. 428, dated 10 April 1820, Mr. Hammond comes before the Court of Common Pleas and files his petition, "praying to have said Town of Ausburn vacated, in the words and figures following . . . . (he) purchased back all the said certificates and gave notice in the Western Herald and Steubenville Gazette, in the said town of Ausburn and on the court house doors in Steubenville according to law." Unless you were a Bezeleel Wells or someone of fame, many of these towns did not survive. Or perhaps lack of a good water supply or roads leading to town pronounced doom for these forgotten haunts. Those deed books on microfilm are filled with these lost towns all around our country. Don't forget to submit your "found and lost towns" to the OH GEN WEB site who is requesting such material. And provide them a Deed Book and page. And I'm interested as well in listing them on the JCC OGS site if they pertain to Jefferson Co., OH. Julia Krutilla fkrutill@weir.net

    3. Hello All, I see where Bridgette answered with the address for writing for a copy of this book. Jefferson County Historical Association Att: Bill Hanlin P.O. Box 4268 Steubenville, Ohio 43952-4268 It would be nice if she or one of the other members of JCHL could post ALL the books offered, as well as price, tax and shipping and handling. And also give a description such as content, #pages, whether indexed and limited copies. They have some really wonderful reprints including earlier histories such as the Steubenville Centennial (1897) and Steubenville Sesquicentennial (1797-1947). And they are still deciding to reprint the Pioneer book. Both Pioneer Collection and Pioneer Days are a must have for any personal library. Only problem, this group is closed for the winter and not scheduled to reopen until about the 2nd week of March 99. Let's see if we get a nibble from a dedicated member, might even encourage them to post a page with all the info or let Terri include it on her site? There is a little bit on info regarding this library on the Jefferson County Chapter, OGS web page under "Volunteer" as JCC OGS has members, Opal Conn, Dorothy Wells, and Charlie Green volunteering to man it. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohjefogs And forgive me for repeating myself, but this library contains some material which is not housed at Schiappa or anywhere else, an excellent stop when researching in Jeff. Co., OH. Julia fkrutill@weir.net

    3. Sarah, It is the International Genealogical Index. It's a series of records (birth, marriage, christening, and some census) which have been compiled by the LDS. I have the sets for the US, Wales, Germany, Switzerland, and Canada if you would like a look-up. The US, is done by counties, Canada by province, Ireland and Wales by counties, and Germany is done alphabetically by surname. 2. Sarah---that should be International Genealogical Index , not Geological. Can't spell so early in the morning! Pat

    1. Re: Question?
    2. It's the International Geological Index . Put out by the Latter Day Saints Church. Can be found at your County Genealogical Society--if not there they can give you a lead as to where to find it. This is a very useful index--I've found data on several of my Ward family members. The IGI is seperated into states (on microfillm), and I believe countries also. A wonderful reference! Ms Pat Moser
