    3. Karen, what a good idea. I would also like to know if my ancestors are on the naturalization list. Our John W. Thompson or John Thompson, his son might be on it. 3. Hi, I see that the Genealogy room at the Schiappa branch contains the following resource: "Records of Naturalizations for Jeff. Co Oh 1823-1906" Can anyone tell me what that would contain? For example, if my ancestor's name is in there, would it have a date when he made the application... Basically, I'm trying to determine where to write for copies of the naturalization application ("letter of intent") and the later documents, if the person was naturalized in Jefferson County. Thanks in advance, Karen C.

    3. Judie, My BARCUS/BAKRHURST line is as follows: William John BARCUS ( I've also found it spelled BARKHURST) was born 16 Jul 1823 in Ohio or WVA died 25 May 1909 at Brilliant, Oh Jefferson Co. He married Lucninda COX 16 Apr 1848 in Jefferson Co Oh. He and his family mostly lived in the Rush Run Warren Twp, Wells Twp, and Smithfiled, Oh of Smithfield Twp. They had about 11 children. If you recoginize this name I can give you the names of the children. There is also a William BARKHURST (I don't know if he was blood related) that married my g-g-g-grandmother, Isabella HAYNES, HAMAKER/HAYMAKER. The marriage to Wm. BARKHURST was her second after my g-g-g-grandfahter HAYMAKER died. Wm. was born 1785 in Maryland, and they lived in Smithfield I believe. Isabella was born 1802 died 1857. I don't know if this helps or not. 3. I have a Sarah Eliza Griffith (b. 10/4/1864 d.9/5/1908) who married a William Hackathorn (he would have died sometime between 1884 when daughter Ina was born and 1892 when Sarah married her second husband, James Andrew Morrow). Ina was James Andrew Morrow's third wife. None of the women you mentioned are the sisters of Sarah and none of her sisters married Hackathorns. It is possible that Joseph was the brother of Sarah's father Andrew but at this point I have not made the connection. Hope this helps! Jean Griffith Booth

    1. Looking for THOMAS L.C. DURBIN's parents....
    2. TO ANYONE WHO HAS ACCESS TO RECORDS: I have reached a dead-end in my DURBIN research with the last documented ancestor I could find being THOMAS L.C. DURBIN (the name as recorded on his gravestone at the cemetery next to the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church and on his marriage license at Jefferson County, OH courthouse. He was born 28 Apr, 1816 and died 25 Sep, 1876. He married CATHERINE HENRY (b. 03 Jun 1824, d. 27 Apr, 1864). It appears that he married MARGARET HOOPER on 12 Jan, 1865, after his first wife's death, and later on 28 Nov, 1875, probably after the second wife's death, he married BELL PUGH on 28 Nov, 1875. (These latter two marriages give his name as Thomas L. Durbin, and there is little doubt that they are one and the same person.) THOMAS L.C. DURBIN and CATHERINE (HENRY) DURBIN had the following children: Infant (?) Durbin David B. Durbin, b. 15 Feb, 1843 (Mt. Pleasant, OH), d. 10 Nov, 1864 John Presley Durbin, b. 10 Jul, 1845 (Mt. Pleasant, OH), Married ANNA ("Annie") ELIZABETH HEATON, 04 Oct, 1866, in Mt. Pleasant, OH by J.S. Scott, Minister of M.E. Church, d. 02 Sep, 1911 in Mt. Pleasant, OH. George W. Durbin, b. 13 Feb, 1847, d. 26 Mar, 1864 (Mt. Pleasant) Lemuel H. Durbin (Sometimes the name is mistakenly given as Samuel H. Durbin, Lemuel is correct.) b. 08 Sep, 1848, Married ANNA SHEPHERD 10 Dec, 1868 (by the above mentioned Rev. J. L. Scott in Mt. Pleasant), d. 02 Jul, 1910 Robert P. Durbin, b. 27 Jun, 1850, married SARAH SPENCER (no date or place given), d. 18 Jun, 1916. William B. Durbin, b. 22 Mar, 1852, married LIDA PORTER, d. 22 Dec, 1887. Joshua B. Durbin, b. 03 May, 1854, married NINN ROBY, d. 22 Jun, 1868. James T. Durbin, b. 23 May, 1856, d. 22 Jun 1868 Mary Elthisa (sic) (Elizabeth ? ) Durbin, b. 09 Feb, 1858 Margaret Caroline Durbin, b. 07 Jan, 1862, d. 26 Feb, 1865 Isaac Riley Durbin, b. 15 Mar, 1864, d. 14 Apr 1864. (NOTE: Catherine (Henry) Durbin died 27 Apr, 1864 of measles shortly after her infant son died of measles at 1 month of age.) John Presley Durbin was my g-grandfather. My grandfather was John Francis Durbin was born 23 Jan, 1878. My father was Raymond Francis Durbin, b. 15 Nov, 1906. I need to know who the parents of THOMAS L. C. DURBIN were and where he was born. I cannot find a record of his being born in Jefferson County. If anyone has records for Guernsey County, OH or other adjoing counties, there could possibly be a record. I believe that if I can find who my g-g-g-grandfather was, the puzzle should fit together. It has been suggested that a CHRISTOPHER DURBIN or his son LAWRENCE DURBIN, having both been in Jefferson County in the early 1800's, might be the missing ancestor. But there is no documentation thus far. Only speculation. Any help will be most appreciated! Ed Durbin

    2. I too have BUCY/BUCEYs on my tree. Thomas Cromwell BUCY b. 7-7-1816, lived in Jeff. County, had at least 8 children (Martha, Mary Catherine, Charlotte, Henry, Oliver P., McCormick, Jemina, Susan L.). Any names common with you? 2. Hi, Thanks for the information. My gggrandfather was William Henry Bucy born 1795 and died 5-8-1875 in Steubenville. He was married to Elizabeth Bell. This is where I am stopped cold. Betty Lindeman Bloom
