I'm searching for information regarding William Jeffers, b. 1761 Ireland. It is possible that William emigrated in 1804 on board the ship "Echo" from Sligo Ireland to New York. To nail this down, I'm looking for birth records regarding his family. William Jeffers b. 1761, Ireland d. 1846 Pultney Twp., Belmont Co., Ohio was married to Sarah (J?) Jeffers. The first 3 sons, Richard, Robert, and William Jr., were born in Ireland. The last son born in Ireland, William Jr., was born in 1800. Daughter Elizabeth's birthplace is unknown in 1804. Son John Jeffers birthplace is Ohio, possibly Jefferson Co., 1806. (It is possible that William Jeffers was married earlier, since his first child, Richard was not born until he was 36). In Feb 1814, at the Steubenville Land Office, William Jeffers resident of Jefferson Co., OH purchased 160 acres of land at $2 per acre on credit. The land is located in what is now Pultney Twp., Belmont Co., Ohio. The Jeffers family remains in this general area to this day. Any information regarding early Jeffers family members in Jefferson Co., Ohio would be appreciated. Of note, according to early pioneer papers, there was also a Joseph Jeffers in Jefferson county, who was having a very bad time with his wife. I do not know of any relationship between William and Joseph, but the name Jeffers in this region was not common until about 1830. Very respectfully, Ronald E. Jeffers Jr., US Army, retired ________________________________________________________ NetZero - We believe in a FREE Internet. Shouldn't you? Hello- I have a Ben F. Chamberlain whose family came west on the Oregon Trail. Know nothing of his past (he died in his eighties during the late 70's) but could accumulate considerable information on his descendants - maybe siblings if you find a connection. Hi Janice: This few pages of info I have on the Saltsmans does contain a page on Philip - why don't I copy this and send to you. I also will go thru my paper files and see if I can find where the info came from originally, as it was part of a further writeup. Philip's father was William who settled in PA, died there in 1796 which was the year Philip came to Ohio from PA. Helen I'm really trying to track down Martin's father, Philip SALTSMAN, Sr. I have another source that says Philip Sr.'s father was William who came from Germany in 1751 and settled in Pennsylvania but I don't know what the documentation for this is. Do you have anything on where William came from in Germany? Or anything else on Philip, Sr.? Thanks for responding, Janice

Hi See where you have had some replies on CULLUM and COOPER. Found a JAMES GLENN in "Will Abstracts, book two, Jeff. Co., O., 1821-1836" Page 17: #317 - JAMES GLENN; dated 11 April 1827; sons John and David; daughters, Jane McCutchen, Mary Allen, Sarah Mooehead; exr. son John, Aron Allen; wit. Isaac Shane, Moses Allen; date of probate May 1835. Did you have this? Helen Helen, I'd love some lookups in your reference. What info do you need from me? My Jeffco families were: Aaron Allen and Mary Glenn Allen, George Johnston Cooper and Alvira Mooney Cullum Cooper, Henry Cooper and Hannah D Johnston Cooper, John Cooper and Elizabeth Vantilburgh Cooper, Beal Cullum and Cassandra Mooney Cullum, William Cullum and Elizabeth Leatherberry (or bury) Cullum, James Glenn, George Johnston and Mary Allen Johnston, John Johnston, Abel and Priscilla Leatherberry, John Mooney and Mary McVay Mooney, and Samuel Vantilburgh and Maria Emmons Vantilburgh. If that's WAY too many and you want me to do these a couple at a time, please let me know. I feel like I really have roots in that county. Maybe I need to come visit. Thanks for any/all info. jan ==== OHJEFFER Mailing List ==== Searching for a "lost" place?? Visit

Thanks Sandra, I have Wm. Elliott and Martha Matilda Saltsman's marriage but she was supposed to have had a "Break of Promise" (marriage) from William McLennan by whom she had a son, Amos, in 1843. This is from a D.A.R. application by a descendant of Amos'. If Wm. McLennan married this Sarpta Dusion Dec. 11, 1845 Columbiana Co. maybe the "Break of Promise came between 1843 and 1845. Wm. was born in Columbiana Co.[That's the first time I have heard the name "Sarpta."] I'll have to see if I can get a copy of that document in Steubenville. Thanks again, Janice

Hi A few pages of Saltsman info was given to me years ago (can't remember by who) had descent of Martin SALTSMAN from William SALTSMAN (arriving Philadelphia, PA 1751) - My husband's lines connect to the SALTSMAN line thru CULPS, & MAPLES. If I can help let me know. Helen Weals If anyone has access to "History of the Upper Ohio Valley," Brant and Fuller. Would you please see if any or all of the quotes below came from that book? They were given to me together and cited as "History of Upper Ohio Valley" but I'd like to verify it. It seems like one contradicts the other as to the number of Martin's children. I'd like the page number, too, please. "Martin Saltsman, son of Philip and Betsey, who came from Germany to Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, had 5 sons and 3 daughters." "Martin Saltsman, came to Jefferson Co., Ohio at an early time when the country was full of Indians and was compelled to re-cross the river on account of their hostilities. I am looking for the marriage of: William McLENNAN and Martha Matilda SALTSMAN in the early 1840's in Jefferson County, OH and Amos McLENNAN and Ann Elizabeth? ROBISON in the early 1860's at Cross Creek, Jefferson County, OH. Thanks, Janice
