Hi Jane, Thank you for the information on the SIVARD and SHIVELY's. I will look further in my notes to see if I made a mistake while copying information down. I did find one of my notations stating: >From an old newspaper, reel # B18 (they have since been re-labeled) Friday Oct. 4, 1895 page 9 Clement J. Roe wedding to Kate SIVARD. O. J. Brown administrator of estate of W. ROE." Also for the 1880 census Warren Twp. Wesley ROE age 23 and Charlotte age 19. Maybe this is the Charlotte who married Charels W. ROE..? I have these SHIVELY's in my notes also: 1850 Warren Twp Census...Richard Shively age 42, Jane 42, children: Sarah Ann 14 (who married George NEEL my ancestor), Henry Smith 12 (who married Louella Wells an ancestor of mine), John B. 10, George 8, and Forgus Richard 3. 1860 Warren Twp Census: George NEEL 29, Sarah Ann SHIVELY 23, Richard Shively 3, Martah 4. If I come across anything more I will let you know, I hope this helps. Barb

I have an Alverna W. Abrams, daughter of Daniel M and Susan Mc Clure Abrams. (it could be Abrahams) She was the second wife of William Groves, son of Peter and Sarah Swickard Groves. William's first wife was Eliza Davis. William and Eliza moved to Mexico, Audrain Co., Missouri sometime between 1865 and 1900, but William either went back to Jefferson Co to find a second wife, or Alverna and her family were in Missouri about 1904 when he married the second time. Sarah, You should contact someone from the Schiappa library, ie: Sandy Day to help you on this. There are several other cemeteries close that he could be buried at if not New Alexandria. Also, maybe someone from the Jefferson County Genealogy Society can help. Have you tried contacting any of those folks. They are very helpful and I'm sure can answer your question. The addresses to write to are listed below and the Society web page is at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohjefogs/ The death is listed as... I have checked all books at the Schiappa library for his buial and never found his name in them...Please any one that is familier with the area advice me.. Any help would be great, Sarah jsfox@webtv.net
Sarah, You are very unlikely to find a birth record in any county court record in a birth index as most states / counties did not require recording births until much later. If the people died in Jefferson County you might try looking in Probate records for Wills or estate inventories which will sometime give details as to ages and birth information. Also a county history might include the people you search for and these sometimes go into great detail on family history. When you post to this or any list always mention who you are looking for, it can't hurt and you never know when someone might be online who recognizes your names. Also go to the Rootsweb surname area and see if there is a list for the surname you are researching and post your names there. Hi Barb, Thanks for the info about Charlotte A. SIVARD who married Charles W. ROE. I have that Katherine Irene (Kate) SIVARD, Charlotte's sister, married a SHIVELY. You mentioned a Kate SIVARD marrying Clement J. ROE. Wonder if one of these marriages was a second, or I have the wrong name. The wedding date of 10/1895 certainly fits w/my dates for Kate. SIVARD is such an unusual name. Makes me wonder.... As far as the James SIVARD who was C.W. ROE's grandfather, James SIVARD was my ggg-grandfather. By the way, there is a James SIVARD in Columbus who is a dr. I am sure that he is a descendent of the same James SIVARD, but he is not interested in corresponding about his family tree. How could anyone not be? ha ha Anyway, nice hearing from you again. I'll keep your address for future "finds". Happy hunting. Sarah, Try to find the oldest churches and search their records. If you know where your family is buried, search the church records, the oldest newspaper company. Talk with the older citizens, they know everything and will speak with you...seldom people search the minds of our seasoned citizens. If you see a Title Company... hit them too with tons of questions. Let the minister of the church know what you are looking for..they are incredible! Just be friendly and ask tons of questions, you may hit a goldmine. Kay P.S. Please let me know how you made out. I would love to go back to Jeff.County and eat at the T-Bone. JJ I have a Philip Ward b abt 1820 who married Mary Jane Abraham b 1821 in Jefferson county OH in Jan 1847. They lived and farmed in Island Creek Twnsp for many years (ref census from 1850, 1860 and 1880). I have been searching for a record of their death dates and location without success. Have you a clue? Jack Ward jackw1@flash.net
Hi Judy, At this time I don't have any information on Edward's during that time period. I will make a copy of your message in case I run across something in the future. By looking at the census during that time, I feel real sure that James had other children. At this time the only one I know about is my Great Grandfather John V. Smith. Thanks for answering. Ron Smith
I have a copy of "The Condensed History of Jefferson, Ashtabula County, Ohio" compiled by Cornelius UDELL and published in 1878. I donated a copy to the Ashtabula County Genealogical Society several years ago and was told my their president and that time that they were considering a reprint. My question is, did they ever publish it? Has it been indexed? Sincerely, Blanche E*L*L*I*O*T*T *S*P*E*N*C*E* *U*D*E*L*L* seeker Proud Sponsor of RootsWeb phl3851@montana.com
