I'm wondering, gang, what is the best source for records of Steubenville's St. Peters church for 1870-1915? Thanks, Michael
Hello all, I'm wondering whether any of you have information on the following couple, who lived in Mannington, Marion, West Virginia before settling in Steubenville, Jefferson, Ohio. I am searching for the following information: 1. The names of Thomas' parents. His death certificate was no help there. 2. The town of origin of Thomas or Sibina. 3. A church marriage record (in Mannington, Marion, West Virginia) of the couple. (Their county marriage record did not supply the names of their parents) Notes: Thomas' declaration of intention for citizenship yielded a different immigration date (Aug 1853) than did his immigration information on the 1900 census (1851). (The 1910 census listed no immigration info). The witness to the declaration is Sibina's brother Frank, who, the document says, came "at the same time." However, I've traced Frank and Sibina's family back to 1850 in Washington Twp., Washington, Indiana, so it seems that the Gaughans immigrated before Thomas did. However, the fact that Sabina's death certificate lists her mother as Grace <McDonald> indicates that Thomas, Sabina's husband, may have been related to Sabina's mother, and could therefore have been from the same town. Therefore, I've been spending many hours collecting data on Sabina's family, which seems to be easier to find than Thomas' family. Good Hunting, Michael P.S. I research weekly at the Family History Library in Salt Lake. I'd be happy to collaborate with interested researchers.

Hi, I believe it is in Harrison County, OH I worked on Gutschall line for my sister in law via Samuel b. ca 1795 and third wife. Always wondered is Nicholas was Sam's father but never pursued it. Harrison County has a buffalo Twp., and was part of Jefferson until 1813 P.S. Name also spelled Gotchall, lots still live in area. Found her line spelled in all above ways. I need some help. I would appreciate it if someone would look up the following marriages in Jefferson Co. (1) Hugh Torbet married Elizabeth McMahon in 1883. (2) Elizabeth Torbet married Thomas Wilson in 1893. Elizabeth was the younger sister of Hugh. These dates were taken from census records, so the marriage year could be plus or minus one year. Many thanks. John Torbet Jmtorbet@aol.com Phoenix AZ

There is a Thesaurus of Geographic Names at: http://www.gii.getty.edu/tgn_browser It will locate small unknown towns all over the world and give you geographic coordinates on where to find it on a map. It also gives the hierarchy and I used it to find what counties some towns were in so I could research them.
