    1. PEOPLES / BOCHARD FAMILIES
    2. Greetings, I am looking for information on ROBERT PEOPLES, born 1766 in Pennsylvania. His wife was POLLY. He died in Jefferson County, Ohio in 1833. They had several children: ROBERT PEOPLES JR. married HANNAH BOCHARD In Jefferson County, Ohio on August 10, 1813. They moved to Morrow County, Ohio shortly thereafter. POLLY PEOPLES and PRICILLA PEOPLES were both unmarried at the time of their fathers death. WILLIAM PEOPLES, the oldest son ELIZABETH PEOPLES MARRIED A ROBINSON MARTHA PEOPLES MARRIED A McCORMICK JONATHAN PEOPLES, the 2nd son A REESI, or RUSI PEOPLES (hard to read on will) died before 1833 and had two children, ROBERT PEOPLES and PRICILA PEOPLES. There is a mystery DAVID PEOPLES that married ELIZABETH SHAW that somehow fits into this family. Can anyone with Jefferson County, Ohio or Peoples information help me? She married BRUNTY, John T. 3. Loretta, I got the pages I have on Chaney from Jefferson Co Genealogical Society. I gather they have a copy of the book on Chaney. I'm sure someone on this list has their address handy. I would have to dig - my room is a huge mess! My ggg grandmother Jemima Reed was married to Finley. She then married John Minor Smith who was killed in the Civil War. Jemima had three children George Chaney 1842, Sarah Chaney 1844 and Charles Chaney 1846, The moved to Adams Co., IN 1860. I can't find what happened to these children. I misquoted on Margaret Jane Chaney in case this is important to someone else, it says she was the daughter of James Wheeler and Sarah Wright Chaney. She married Ernest Howard Jackson who was from Eng. Looks like they moved to WI, then she to NE. Some of these others also moved to the same places. Margaret had a sister Harriet. 3. Faith, It is really great to finally connect with someone who can help. I had found where in Anne Arundel Co, Md. in 1799 both Charles Chaney and Polly Chaney had married on the same day. Charles married Sarah Dunham and Polly married William Dunham. I'am aware of who Richard Chaney is. He was a colonist (some say Va) who came in the early 1600's. I would like to get a copy, so that I can study it closer. Can you tell me how to get a copy? I have been gathering information all up and down the coast, on any Chaney I can find hoping to find a William who came to Ohio in time to have a son born in 1800. I'am familiar with Richard, Nathaniel, and Jacob Chaney but I can't find William to connect him to them. I have hope again.Faith, I just subscribed to this list about 10 O'Clock this morning , Thank you very much. Loretta

    3. Hi, Sorry about that, my Mom and Aunt Jo came to visit just as I started writing. Anyway, I have page 87 and 88 from a booklet called "Some Chaney Families Southeast Ohio that I got from Jefferson Co Genealogical Society. These Chaney's were from Frederick Co., MD. The pages I have have info on Finley Chaney who was first husband to one of my ever so many great grandmother's. While Finley's parents are listed as Charles and Sarah Dunham Chaney, it states they decended from the pioneer to MD, Richard Chaney. These pages lists the last two children of whoever #8 was, the children of Margaret Jane Chaney and James Wheeler, she's #9. Then Finley looks like an F in front of his name . The next one is number III Mary Ann Chaney (Polly) sister of Charles Chaney of Jefferson Co., dau of Charles Chaney and Lucy of MD. Twins, actually, and states Nathaniel Chaney of Harrison Co, and Jacob Chaney also had twins. 2. Julia A. (Heaton)Krutilla
    3. Hi Bobbie, Forgive me, but my mind is so rusty as I never seem to get a chance to look at Schiappa reference books. But Schiappa has books providing information connecting those early ministers and their churches which were published by earlier genealogist in Jeff. Co., OH. I remember a small chapter devoted to this. And the county history books includes the churches and some of the ministers. It would require a dedicated person to take the time to look. If John Thompson preached for a considerable time and was well liked, he should appear somewhere in those books. There were also Ministers of God, not connected with a church who performed the marriage ceremony as well, and you'll see the phrase connected with their signature on the marriage record. And make sure you request a copy of the "actual" marriage record rather than just an abstracted page from a book which indexes vital records. They sometimes include interesting bit's of information - such as "married at the bride's home, father - John Doe in _____ township." Hope someone out there knows your answer, Julia <Would it be possibe to find the church where John Thompson married Marie Ross in Steubenville, on 2 June 1827.?? Maybe their parents names would be there.>

Williams" <104740.372@compuserve.com> To All Whom It May Concern: This message is to inform all genealogists, researchers, historians, teachers and students, about a very important web site that has a searchable database of over 1, 650 U.S. Army soldiers who once served at the short-lived Buffalo Barracks between 1835 and 1846. The 1840 Census of Buffalo, NY lists Colonel James M. Bankhead and a quantity of 671individuals ranging from age 1 to 60 under his responsibility. Unfortunately, the census does not list each of these barracks residents by name....only by quantity. However, The Buffalo Barracks Historical Web Site has made available, free of charge, the names of all officers and soldiers, and some of their wifes and dependants, who lived at this early federal military post on the Niagara Frontier. The URL for this outstanding web site is: [ www.buffalonet.org/army ] There you will discover the Descriptive & Historical Register Data for Enlisted Soldiers in the U.S. Army, as well as a wealth of information pertaining to the Buffalo Barracks and it's unique historic value. I encourage everyone to take the time to visit this site. Perhaps you have an ancestor who once served there? Got a couple of marriage records from the county the other day, and was wondering if anyone could identify the parish/church the ministers were from (and if the church records still exist)...the ministers in question were George Buchanan (marriage took place 1840) and A. Abbott in 1864 ("minister of the harper" -- what does this mean?). The township is not identified for either marriage, unfortunately. I quote from the article "I have the 36th report for 1910. Therefore, if they published each year, the first report must have been about 1874." Further " It is another good source for all the mines in the state of Ohio. They are listed by county. A list of accidents; name(s) of those killed, nationality and age, cause of accident,...name of owner of mine, village where mine is located, number of empolyees including the name of the supt. with his address, results of inspections,..." This article does not list the mines, but it points the way. This appears to be a document of the state of Ohio. It should be in larger libraries in Ohio and perhaps could have pages photocopied for those unable to visit a library which owns this. Often government documents do not appear in the library catalog, but are separately cataloged and house in a government documents section. It is always best to write, call, or ask in person if you are not locating a government document. Certainly this would be held by The State Library of Ohio. Colleges that teach mining engineering should also have this. Hope this is helpful to some of you.

    3. Wow, what fantastic research and support for our members to find the names of the graduates already. You all are amazing! Would it be possibe to find the church where John Thompson married Marie Ross in Steubenville, on 2 June 1827.?? Maybe their parents names would be there. I can't tell you how thrilled we would be to find their church. If anyone has that kind of information, we surely would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you so much, Bobbie >From: "Julia A.
