Rarely do we get physical descriptions of our ancestors - thought a HARDY researcher might enjoy the following extraction from the Wed., July 20, 1853, pg. 3 American Union Newspaper: Colvin I. HARDY of Cross Creek Twp. called in our office on Saturday and subscribed for the "Union". He is not quite 20 years of age, stands 6 feet four and 3 quarter inches in his stockings and weighs 231 pounds. He is a house painter by trade and has this advantage over his rivals, that he rarely needs a ladder to do his work. Withal Mr. Hardy is a democrat and if not now will be the strongest one in the county in a year or two.
Hi Loretta: I don't have any information at this time to connect Samuel Smith or anything on Charles Chaney. My Great Grandfather was John V. Smith, born Aug 14, 1830. He first married Ann Thompson then he married my great grandmother Alice Minerva (Hagerty) Smith. My GG Grandparents were James C. Smith, born abt 1800 who married Anne Green or Greene. I have also seen her name as Ann Thompson. I see in the 1820 census index that a Samuel Smith lived in Smithfield . I will keep your message in my file and if I come across anything I will get back with you. Thanks for answering. Ron Smith
How nice, I wish we could find something like that for one of our Heatons.

Does anyone know how Smithfield and Smithfield Twp. got their names? I think my Smith line could have been some of the first settlers in that area. Appreciate any information on the history of these areas. Thanks Ron Smith

Happy99.exe arrives as an email attachment or news message attachment. Double clicking the Happy99.exe program infects your computer. You know that you're infected when you see a window named "Happy New Year 1999 !!" that contains a display of moving fireworks. Don't run the program and you won't get infected. HAPPY99.EXE --- Detection & Removal If you don't already own a virus detection and removal software package, you do need to buy one soon....in the mean time for ONLY HAPPY99.EXE detection & removal, try the following FREE solution... The following program is free and I've tried it several times on infected computers at work, IT DOES WORK. This single file program is small enough to store on a 3.5" diskette for sharing or storing a copy. THE LINK TO OBTAIN THE PROGRAM IS LISTED AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS MESSAGE. This FREE program allows anyone to remove the Happy99 worm code from their computer. No skill level is required by the user. It also will report on all the Email addresses that you have sent the Virus/Worm code to. It will NOT protect you from future infections of HAPPY99, but you can continue to use it to remove HAPPY99 if you become infected again. Once you download the program, there is really nothing to do as the user but run the program. It will prompt you if the HAPPY99 code is present on your computer (it will also tell you if it's not). So you can run this to check and see if you're infected now, and to check in the future. Happy99 Cleaner 2.0 From: Craig Schmugar Minimum reqs. How do you know you have received "Happy 99". We have a couple of users on this computer and it is hard to say what they may have opened. Thank You for your help. I knew what the Happy99.exe worm was and when I found it in my "file manager" I was going to delete it immediately and in my haste to highlight it in order to delete--I must have clicked twice and opened the damn file instead. What you see then is fireworks, it looks innocent enough. But that was an interesting question, how does a person know when she/he has the "worm"?? I don't know!! But I'd like to find out too. I suppose when you run your anti-virus program that I assume everyone has, it will show up or alert you in some way. Anyone have more info? Judie
To CarolG2258 and DMclain: I wish to thank you for E-mail you sent. It will be helpful in checking out the mine accident in which my grand father was killed in 1908, Fairfield Twp. Tuscarawas Cy. The info you have provided is of great value to me. Thank you again. Jim Francis
The "1830 petition by Steubenville 'ladies' " item (included below) had a reference to BEATTY. I have a possible BEATTY connection with my HILL line: A Letitia Ann HILL married a William BEATTY 21 Oct 1841 in Belmont County, OH. ************************************************** * I am trying to determine if this Letitia Ann HILL * is a daughter (or other relative) of: * Thomas HILL (ca 1794 - aft 1872) and * Letitia LEACH (ca 1800 - ?), * married 26 Nov 1819 in Jefferson County. ************************************************** Also a Letitia A BEATTY (1824/25 - ?) lived in Marshall County, WV in 1897. Thomas and Letitia HILL had a son, Isaac (1821-1897). In Isaac's Civil War pension record, neighbors, Letitia A BEATTY and Robert Mills, signed an affidavit stating they were were present at Isaac HILL and Jemimia TERRELL's wedding at the home of Thomas DUNFIELD in Belmont County on 7 Oct 1842. It may be just coincidence, but in the 1860 census Thomas & Letitia Hill's neighbors were William & Lydia BEATTY. They lived in Mead District, Belmont County, OH. These BEATTY's had 4 children: Susana(8) Thomas (6), William (3), John (1), also living with them was Mary Miller (16). I have hit a brick wall on getting anything on Thomas' parents, other children, siblings, ... and am now trying connections like this BEATTY item. -Brooks Hill ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Subj: Re: 1830 petition by Steubenville 'ladies' Date: 3/14/99 11:23:05 PM Eastern Standard Time From: PAllen2710@aol.com Reply-to: OHJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com To: OHJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com Many thanks from a Beatty descendant! Perhaps Thomas stayed behind! There is a T. Metcalf listed in the 1871 Atlas of Jeff. Co. He owned 80 acres in Salem Twp. (towards the middle).
