The Ohio Bicentennial Steubenville (OH) Committee is in need of a BARN located in Jefferson County, Ohio for the purpose of painting on it's side the "Bicentennial Logo". 1. Starkey/Nile/Beckwith,PA,NJ,VA,OH,MI
    2. Robert Beckwith was first found in the census in 1850 with wife Elenor Jane Nile bn 1832 d1912 , d/o John and Jane (Starkey) Nile of Jefferson Co. OH. Robert was bn @1812 and died 12-13-1889 in Salineville, OH. He had been a farmer and a miner by trade. His death record states that he was bn in Salineville, yet I can find no trace of his parentage or his existence there before 1848. There is a marriage record for a Robert and Nancy (McCoy) Beckwith in Columbiana Co. and I have contradicting dates, one being 1843 and the other being 1853. I do not know anything about this Nancy except she is buried in Columbiana Co. Might she be a first wife? Might she be a stepmother? Robert and Elenor had the following children: 1. John M. bn 11-18-1849 (a mystery here..John married Emma Sanderson in 1887, but apparently they divorced as she was also the wife of his brother, William and John had a John Jr. bn & d 5-15-1897, but his 2nd wife is unknown. 2. Matilda Jane "Tilly" bn 1853 d 1947 never married 3. Robert Jr. bn 2-13-1856 d. 8-13-1873 4. William "Wid" bn 12-1859 mar Ada "Emma" Anderson who was bn 1868 in Wintersville, Jeff Co OH d/o Richard Sanderson and Emily Fisher. They had 2 sons and divorced @ the turn of the century and she married her 3rd husband, Ross Manning and Had a son, Ross bn 1903 and a Daughter, Ida Jane bn 1906. Ross Jr married and had a son named Ted and a daughter Leona. Leona married a man last name of Young. Family has said that Leona is still alive, but I have not found her. Ida married George "Buck" Fernavol and they had a daughter named Olive. In 1944 Buck and Ida lived in Greensboro, NC William died after the divorce in a drowning accident. The year and place of his death is unknown. Family has it that he died after slipping in a mining reservoir and drowning. He and Emma had two son's. 1. Robert bn 1890 who married Sarah Wolf, and is the forefather of the Beckwith's who still live in Columbiana Co , OH (E. Liverpool). 2. George was bn 1892 and married first Florence Beatrice Tyrrell, d/o Noble Miles and Edith (Beam) Tyrrell who settled in Muskegon, Muskegon Co MI. Here is where George and Florence were married in 1920. They were the parents of my father, Donald Edwin Beckwith 1933-1999. George had a 2nd marriage to Mrs. Margaret Miller, and he and Margaret are buried in Manistee, MI. 5. Frank bn 1-29-1864 Salineville, d 4-11-1944 mar Ida Strauss and had atleast 3 children, 1. Roy bn 10-20-1898 mar Georgia Brown. no children. 2 Mary bn 1890 d 1985. 3. Earnest bn 1910 d 1914 6. Elmira Jane bn 1865 mar Robert Anderson and had son Charles. Charles mar. a Goddard and they had a daughter, Martha who married a Boyd. Martha still lives in Salineville and is the owner of the original Nile farm. 7. Charles bn 1871-1952 never married 8. Norman bn 1874-1952 never married There was an Enoch Beckwith listed in the naturalizations of Columbiana Co. OH. He came from England in June of 1879 and was naturalized at the age of 29 on 1-2-1885. No one knows how he fits in to the Beckwith family or even if he does. So if anyone has an Enoch, let me know. Jane Starkey was the d/o of Levi and Rebecca Merrick. I would appreciate it if someone would send me the entire genealogy of Levi, and anything they have on the Merrick family. Also I am looking for someone name of Sue/Susan Kimball/Lloyd. (Susan, please e-mail me if you get this. We may have connecting cousins through your Kimball line.) Warm Regards, June

    3. Pam, <I've been trying to find information on the Livingston family of Island Creek 1809-1820 for sometime, and am now more interested than ever. I've checked the land records at the GLO/BLM site for OH, but can't seem to find my family. > You sound like a beginner to genealogy. May I suggest getting a "How to Book" at your local library or book store. Or there is also a series of How Tos on line at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/ If you are searching for land deeds - you'll have to work with or at the courthouses in the county where your ancestors lived. I will warn you that these Ohio Valley people seem to cross that Ohio River regularly and leave their paper trail in 3 different states. (The Gen Web will provide you all the mailing addresses and phone numbers of these courthouses & libraries.) And there's nothing like visiting and researching on site, - but sometimes you will have do this by snail mail from your home. You should follow suggestions written in the how-to-book on letter writing for successful research by mail. This takes time - but well worth the effort. The hunt is great fun. Also make sure you obtain every census available while your ancestors were alive. These records will give provide you clues for your research - even provides information on renting or land ownership (a reminder to look for deeds) and perhaps an aged parent providing a new generation. Don't overlook the siblings and maternal lines. Make sure you collect information on them. These individuals often provide documents and connections when your direct-line paper trail ends. Best wishes, Pam Ingle ----- Original Message ----- From: Julia A. Krutilla <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, January 20, 2001 9:07 AM Subject: The Past First Lady, BARBARA PIERCE BUSH and her Jefferson County Roots With President Elect, George Walker Bush's inauguration today, I thought the following item might be interesting to our local family researchers. The Jefferson Co., OH and area surnames associated with this family are ADAMS, CASSELLI, COE, CRAINE, CUNNINGHAM, GLADDEN, HOWELL. Some of you might actually be watching your cousin sworn in as the 43rd president and not know it. °Ž°*ø,žž,ø*°Ž°*ø,žž,ø*°Ž°*ø,žž,ø*°Ž°*ø,žž,ø*°Ž°*ø,žž,ø*°Ž°*ø THE PAST FIRST LADY, BARBARA PIERCE BUSH and her Jefferson County, Ohio Roots As residents of the Ohio Valley which prospered from the Industrial Revolution of the 20th Century, we often overlook the importance as it opened it's doors to land development in 1797. JEFFERSON CO., OH has many politicians and prominent citizens with roots in our county. The 28th U. S. President, Woodrow WILSON, and Abraham LINCOLN's Secretary of War - Edwin M. STANTON, to name a just a couple. But how many of you realize that our past 1st Lady, Barbara PIERCE BUSH is another individual to add to this list with a local Revolutionary Ancestor as well? She has two sets of 4th great grandparents who purchased adjoining land in Island Creek Twp., Jefferson Co., OH in 1799. One set of ancestors are Mose COE & wife, Sarah HOWELL who owned land in both Washington Co., PA & Island Creek, Jefferson Co., OH. Their known children mentioned in Mose's 1813 will - include Benjamin, Moses, Phillip, Daniel, Esther, Jennet, Mary and Sarah. An interesting line in his will hints at problems with his son-in-law and states, "bequeathed to Esther's children . . .. . . with her having the use of it so that Daniel CRAINE can not get any of it". Moses and Sarah spent their later years in the homes of their married children. And more importantly, Mose COE is listed in the Centennial Edition DAR Patriots Index -as an Ensign in the PA Line. Other COE Veterans of Western PA listed include Benj., Ebenezer, & Stephen. The "20th Century History of Steubenville and Jefferson Co., OH" mentions a Benjamin COE who tenderly cared for a wounded Confederate Soldier, by the name of W. G. PAGE during MORGAN's raid through Jefferson Co. in the summer of 1863. After the soldier recovered under Benjamin's care, he took the oath of allegiance for the North. Barbara's other early set of pioneer ancestors in Jefferson Co., OH were Joseph & Rebecca GLADDEN. Joseph died in 1833 and is buried at Two Ridge Cemetery. This cemetery is just west of Wintersville, near junction of St. Rd 43 and 646. We know that Rebecca outlived him as she is mentioned in his 1833 will, and assume she is buried in an unmarked grave next to her husband, Joseph. Their children - Madison, Joseph, the Rev. Aaron, William, Solomon, David, John, Elizabeth w/o Samuel ADAMS, Hannah CUNNINGHAM, Mary COE, Drusilla CASSELLI, and Lodema are all named in Joseph GLADDEN's will. The children and ancestors of Barbara BUSH's from these two families were Mary GLADDEN born in Jeff. Co., OH in 1804, and Daniel COE born Wash. Co., PA in 1801. Daniel followed the old custom of marrying the girl next door in Island Creek! And soon after their marriage in 1822, they moved to Allen Twp., Union Co., OH where they lived out their years. 1. The Past First Lady, BARBARA PIERCE BUSH and her Jefferson County Roots
    2. Julia A. Krutilla
    3. With President Elect, George Walker Bush's inauguration today, I thought the following item might be interesting to our local family researchers. The Jefferson Co., OH and area surnames associated with this family are ADAMS, CASSELLI, COE, CRAINE, CUNNINGHAM, GLADDEN, HOWELL. Some of you might actually be watching your cousin sworn in as the 43rd president and not know it. °´°*ø,¸¸,ø*°´°*ø,¸¸,ø*°´°*ø,¸¸,ø*°´°*ø,¸¸,ø*°´°*ø,¸¸,ø*°´°*ø THE PAST FIRST LADY, BARBARA PIERCE BUSH and her Jefferson County, Ohio Roots As residents of the Ohio Valley which prospered from the Industrial Revolution of the 20th Century, we often overlook the importance as it opened it's doors to land development in 1797. And more importantly, Mose COE is listed in the Centennial Edition DAR Patriots Index –as an Ensign in the PA Line. 1. I'm my own grandpa

    3. I thought this was very cute and we could all use a little change...If you think you have hit a brick wall...TRY TO FIGURE THIS ONE OUT...LOL Many many years ago when I was twenty three, I got married to a widow who was pretty as could be. This widow had a grown-up daughter who had hair of red. My father fell in love with her, And soon the two were wed. This made my dad my son-in-law and changed my very life. My daughter was my mother, for she was my father's wife. To complicate the matters worse, although it brought me joy. I soon became the father of a bouncing baby boy. My little baby then became a brother-in-law to dad. And so became my uncle, though it made me very sad. For if he was my uncle, then that also made him brother To the widow's grown-up daughter Who, of course, was my step-mother. Father's wife then had a son, who kept them on the run. And he became my grandson, for he was my daughter's son. My wife is now my mother's mother and it makes me blue. Because, although she is my wife, she's my grandma too. If my wife is my grandmother, then I am her grandchild. And every time I think of it, it simply drives me wild. For now I have become the strangest case you ever saw. As the husband of my grandmother, I am my own grandpa!! --- Dayna Posey --- [email protected] --- EarthLink: It's your Internet.

THey had seven sons (Robert, Thomas, Samuel, Walter, John, James and Henry) and 48 grandchildren. Robert/Thomas/ James/Henry were c. 1800 settlers in eastern Ohio. Josette Maxwell Boone NC
