If you have any suggestions for me, please reply to me privately since I won't get it on the list. Thank you, Linda [email protected]
Just checking to see if this will go through. I have not gotten mail from this list in quite a while. I have unsubscribed and subscribed again. I have contacted the email address listed on the Jefferson County Ohio web site. I heard from her and was told to contact someone else (she provided the address), which I did over a week ago and I have not heard back yet. I know there is mail because my mother is also on the list and as of a week and a half ago she was getting mail just about every day. Anybody have any suggestions? I would certainly appreciate them.
please change my e-mail address to [email protected]
Hello All, I've been asked by Flora Ver Straten to pass the following message to family researchers who may want to participate in the LDS Molecular Genealogy Research Project. This worthwhile event will be posted on the Jefferson County Chapter, OGS Calendar site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohjefogs/calendar/ for those undecided now and who may want to register in the future. Please feel free to forward and share this message with other family researchers in the tri-state area. Julia A. Krutilla Webmaster [email protected] Jefferson County Chapter, OGS http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohjefogs/ °´°*ø,¸¸,ø*°´°*ø,¸¸,ø*°´°*ø,¸¸,ø*°´°*ø,¸¸,ø*°´°*ø,¸¸,ø*°´°*ø Scientists Coming to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Wintersville, Ohio To Collect DNA to Link All People Together Into One Great Genetic World Family Tree Dear Fellow Genealogists in the Tri-State Area: On behalf of the Wintersville Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I would like to personally invite each of you to a very special event: An opportunity to have your personal DNA analyzed for genetic markers indicating the homelands, tribes, and clan from which your ancestors originated. The event will be held on Saturday morning, May 12, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Powells Lane, Wintersville, OH (maps will be made available at local libraries). You must sign up for the research study by contacting the family history director listed below. I hope that each of you will come to hear Dr. Scott Woodward, a world-renowned geneticist, explain this new technology and take the opportunity to have your unique code preserved and analyzed for clues to your ancestor's origins. Sincerely, Flora Ver Straten 740-264-6190 or 740-765-4049 [email protected] Family History Director The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Wintersville, Ohio the Wintersville Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will host a special morning fireside meeting with Brigham Young University (BYU) Professor Scott Woodward, PH.D. and his researchers in the BYU molecular Genealogy Research Project (MHRP). The researchers will collect DNA samples and family trees from the general public to become part of the first genetic world family tree. Also speaking at the fireside will be Megan Smolenyak, author of the best selling book, In Search of Our Ancestors. All are invited to attend the fireside. However, only those at least 18 years old may participate in the study itself. After completing a consent form, participants will have a small blood sample drawn and will be asked at that time to submit at least a four generation pedigree chart showing the names of their ancestors along with their birthplaces and birth dates. Collecting individual samples of blood for DNA analysis takes only about ten minutes. The fireside and participation in the study are offered at no charge to the general public. This DNA analysis can prove especially helpful to those whose ancestry lacks surname identification or for whom records were not created, as is often the case with those of African, of Native American and of Scandinavian ancestry. Participation in this project confers additional benefits, to include the following: *Preservation of each participant's unique genetic code for his or her descendants. *Possible cross matching of participants DNA to determine relatedness. *Verifying existing genealogical records *A genetic discrimination between closely related individuals or those sharing the same name. The research team guarantees the privacy of the genetic information gathered, which is protected by both state and federal laws and protected in a high-security facility with access by only project head. More information on the Molecular Genealogy Research Project may be obtained from their official web site at: http://molecular-genealogy.byu.edu/

Sue, In the 1871 Atlas of Jeff. Co. there are no Campbells listed for Salem Co. (where Richmond is.) However there is a J. Gray listed in Salem, NW of Richmond, sort of between Locust Hill and Cherry Flats. Good luck! Karen C. -------------- > Looking for information on Emma Campbell Gray, who married W.H. Per a copy of the 1820, Island Creek, Jefferson Co., OH. census-there are 3 Burk families. Moses, Robert, and Samuel. Can anyone provide any information on Robert and Samuel? I am trying to connect these men if possible. Wondering where they were born and what year. Can't read the census record (to dark) to get that data. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeanette

If someone has access to the 1880 Mt Pleasant township census could they kindly do a look-up for me ? I am looking for the family of Oliver Waller, wife and several children who were in Mt Pleasant at that time. Many thanks, Kathy
Awhile back someone posted a program that you could use to delete dates of living persons from your genealogy files before sending them to someone. Can someone point me in the direction. Jean
Quick tip/note to add - I have an old tintype which is very dark & hard to make out. I found a terrific solution to seeing it better & having a good copy of it. To make a great copy of a tintype into a photograph - go to any store which had a Kodak Photomaker Machine (Here in CA, the Sav-on Stores & Kinko's have them). The Photomaker will scan the image on your tintype & then you can adjust the darkness/lightness of the photo. Adjust it lighter & lighter until it's exactly right. When it prints out - it's easier to see what the photo contains in greater detail & you now have a safe duplicate of your tin type - for about $5. Good luck! Sometimes the "dirty" appearance of a tintype is due to dust that is coating the inside of its glass in the frame. However, if they are not in frames or behind glass, anything that attempts to clean the tintype would probably damage it in some way. Carefully removing a tintype from a frame and cleaning the glass can often work wonders in appearance. Sometimes there is a little mildew on the glass, too. Good luck. Does anyone out there have experience with handling old tintypes? I have found four of them in a box in my basement. Of the four, one looks like it will scan well. We'll see about the others which are very dark. In some cases these tintypes look like they are dirty. Is there any way to clean them before scanning? I don't want to ruin them by using the wrong method. Gloria
Beryl, I am sorry, my clumsy fingers and brain wrote 1927, but the marriage of Maria (Sarah) ROSS and John THOMPSON was in 2 June, 1827 instead. Do you think you can find them in your book?
