Hi all, New to the list, looking for any and all information regarding BERTRUCHI family. Information is very sketchy, sure could use some help. George Lewis Bertruchi born 1902, in Ill, moved to Steubenville sometime? The story is that his parents Joseph and Mary Toddhunter Bertruchi were killed in an auto/train? accident (either or, or combination, that is unclear). Was there a large accident that I might find information in the newspaper about? George left town, he must have a bit of gypsy in his blood, he got his SS# issued from the state of Iowa, served in the military in WWII, and ended up in Portland, Oregon; where he died and is buried. The story goes on saying his family owned and operated a funeral business in Steubenville, Jefferson County. I have not found any information along those lines. I did find a notation in 1924 directory of a Joseph (Jessie) and a Leonard Bertruchi in Steubenville, but am unclear how they fit in. They apparently worked at Wheeling S. Corp. Can someone tell me what Wheeling S. Corp is? Or was? Are they still in existence? How many high schools does Steubenville have? Addresses? Might they have information in year books? Or maybe one of you locals has that information. Thank you for whatever you can offer. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL! Sandy

Hi all, New to the list and thought I'ld send a quick note. Looking for any information regarding surname: Bertruchi. Thanks Sandy
Some time ago there was a discussion about getting records - specifically death records - from NYS. I knew I had seen something official someplace which provided for a waiver of the 50 year ban for descendants. It has taken a bit of time but I finally found it. From the New York State Department of Health; Vital Records Section, Genealogy Unit; Empire State Plaza; Albany, N.Y. 12237-0023 Form DOH-1562 (4/93) 2 pages - General Information and Application for Genealogical Services Page 1 is the fill-in portion for birth, marriage or death records, purpose of request, etc. Page 2 is a summary of the Health Commissioner's Administrative Rules and Regulations. This summary is broken into 4 areas. 1. Genealogical Research - rules for making requests - in writing, purpose, etc. 2. Who is authorized to do the searching? - authorized persons at state, county, local levels. 3. What records are available? - release & restrictions. 4. Genealogy Fee Schedule. Area #3 is in 6 parts - part E states - " The time periods specified in (3B), (3C) and (3D) are waived if the applicant is a descendant or has been designated to act on behalf of a descendant of the person whose record is being requested. A descendant is a person in the direct line of descent. The applicant shall provide documentation of descendancy prior to the release of information in those instances where a waiver of the waiting period is requested. A party acting on behalf of a descendant shall further provide documentation that the descendant authorized the party to make such application." To get the birth cert of someone in NYS, the record must be 75 years old and the person deceased, a death cert requires a 50 year wait So getting a waiver if you can is well worth the effort.
Susan, I don't know if this BOOP line is related, but in the 1871 Atlas of Jeff. Co. there is a J. BOOP listed on Main Street in East Springfield, Salem Twp. To the left are two properties owned by J. Allen, then a prop. owned by J. B. & Co. Across the way is a large property listed as S. G. & S. Mill Girt & Co. I mention the latter property because also on the same page in the atlas, in Bloomfield, Wayne Twp. is a set of 3 properties marked Potten & Bopp/S. G & S. Mills. Then across the street is another marked P&B. The spelling match isn't perfect, but there is a similarity to Samuel Patton Boop. I couldn't help but wonder.... There are no other Boop's (or Bopp) listed in the index. Hope this helps, Karen ------------------- > Can anyone help me with a lookup for: > > Samuel Patton BOOP b.abt.1840/50 d. unk Brilliant, Ohio ...

"ANCESTORS" What's in a name? The talented poet asked. Look deep – listen: The pulse of our ancestors. The heartbeat of nations past Land, Language, Faith.Look into a name. What do you see? Letters only? Look deeper. See the people Who lived that name. Not letters – but flesh and blood. Flesh to our flesh. Blood to our blood. Faith to our faith. Ancestors. You who bore my name, Were your thoughts passed to me? Do I dream your dreams? The sun you saw I see. The moon plays for us both. Days are days. Years are years. But centuries separate us.You who lived centuries ago With my name. Did you see me then? You have not left this earth! You live in my name. You live in me. I give you earthly immortality. My eyes see a different land. My ears hear different sounds. But we worship in unison. The God of your youth. My faith you have given me. The God who watched over you Watches over me. Centuries collapse as Faith unites.Leave you, my ancestor? I could never leave you Without leaving myself. I take pride in you. The soil of your homeland Rests in my heart. Your native language Is the melody of your dreams.I look into your name And see myself. ~ written by W.H. Zoschak (a Slovak) ~

I am looking for James N.ROBINSON and his wife Sarah, who were living in Jefferson Co. in 1880. They had several children born there - Emma, Elizabeth, Oron. James and Sarah would have been around 35 years old at that time. Can SKS find out if they were listed then? I would be very grateful for any help. For years I have been looking for them in PA, but recently I found (from marriage records) that their children were born in Jefferson Co. Is there anyone on the list who could lookup a John Jobe for me on the 1850 census. The index I have says he is on page 249. I know some of the 1850 census records are online but I can't find this page #. I am trying to find out who he married and his children - especially if he had a son named Richard Watson Jobe born about 1844 who married Sarah Jane 'Jennie' Pittis 1867 in Deersville, Harrison Co., Ohio. My records show Sarah (Hout) Pitts to be buried in Union Cemetery in Jefferson Co., OH. Thanks so much for any help! ann
