Hi, Cindy and OHJefferson researchers, I agree, tax lists might help us all. Also, would like toknow about the Naturalization Papers. How can I find out if John Thompson or any of his sons went through this process. Please let us know where and how to find them. Does anybody know anything about William STROUD (b ca 1815 PA) and his wife Ecia Ann (---) (b ca 1817 OH)? They were in the 1850 census of Steubenville Twp., with: Rebecca Jane (ae 10) [1840-79], Susanna (ae 8), John (ae 6), Sarah M. (ae 4), Margaret (ae 2), and Thomas (ae 65, b PA). Rebecca Jane married (ca 1863) George W. FLOHR (8/1/1842-2/18/1925). I assume that William was a brother of James STROUD (b ca 1818) of Washington Co., PA. Any information on this family will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ken, IBSSG Avella, PA

Researching the COURTRIGHT, CORTWRIGHT, etc. family. I have recently been able to connect my John Courtright of Columbiana & Jefferson Co., OH to his family in NJ. He was most likely the s/o John Cortright & Susanna KITTLE. Many of the people of the Minisink Valley (SUssex Co., NJ & Orange Co., NY) left the area after the Rev. My John Courtright left w/ at least 2 others: Jacob FIGLEY & Abraham WESTFALL. At first they settled in Washington Co., PA. Some ended up in Beaver Co., PA when that county was formed. Some moved in 1818 to Columbiana Co., OH when that land opened. I have looked in land deeds for almost all these counties & have never found John Courtright mentioned. However he raised 12 children, only 10 are known. They lived mainly in Columbiana & Jefferson until 1830, then spread out. Below are John COURTRIGHT & Mary CLARKS children. Researching the Kelly family, desc, of Daniel Kelly who's will was recored in Harrison co., OH in 1831. Names children: William, Isaac, David, Jonathan, Anne, Charlotte, Mary, Elizabeth. Jonathan was my ancestor. Executors & possible relatives were: William CHAMPER & John S. MCCLEAN. Daniel Kelly had lived in Washington Co., P in 1790 & owned land in Brooke co., (W)VA. His children lived in the surrounding counties. Jonathan married 1816 Jefferson Co., OH to Sarah KERRIGAN. I can find no Kerrigans in any of the counties, but many KERNAGHANs. IS this the same/correct family? I believe that Jonathans brother Isaac married Mary Kerrigan 1818 in Jefferson Co. Jonathan Kelly & Sarah Kerrigan had at least 10 known children. Most of this branch moved to Indiana in 1850-1855. Below are Jonathan's children & spouses. I have lost the address to send for vital records in Jefferson Co. I think it was at the local library or? Also, do I need to send money upfront ? Thanks Susane -----
This question is a little "off the wall" but I really need the help! I am hoping someone on the list will read this mystery and be able to respond! Do you have Irish immigrants in your family line who settled in the Steubenville area anytime between 1845 and 1880? Particularly those who might have first lived as servants in the home of local lawyers? Possibly with the following surnames (especially the women in your lines): GREENWOOD, McCRORY, DELEHANTY, WILSON, MOOREHEAD or any others? I am looking for the WHY my g.g.grandfather is buried in Steubenville, OH. Joseph GREENWOOD emigrated 1845-48 from Ireland to Steubenville, Ohio, and lived there about 7 years, presumably connected with lawyers Thomas and David WILSON. Joseph moved to Iowa about 1855, were he married and lived for nearly 50 years. His wife, and three children died prior to him and are buried near their home, yet the choice was made to return his body to Steubenville for burial with two others: Hugh GREENWOOD and Lillie (McCRORY) Taylor. Hugh and Lillie were also Irish immigrants. Lillie McCrory, an Irish immigrant, lived in the same household as Lawyer Wm. LLOYD and his family. Later on, about 1880, another family of GREENWOOD emigrated to Steubenville (in connection with lawyers) from Ireland, then moved on after a few years to ND. Joseph GREENWOOD, in the last three years of his life, returned for a few visits to Steubenville, and ended up being buried there. WHY? Presumably he had relatives there, but as near as I can tell - not with the male's surname of GREENWOOD. Hugh GREENWOOD's body was also returned from "out of state" for burial. Lillie (McCRORY) TAYLOR spent her married life in Steubenville. I know there must be relatives who settled there, but I am at a loss on how to find them - particularly since they may have been female and married into another surname. If any of this sounds familiar, or you have suggestions, I would be grateful for your help. Thank-you for reading to the end of this e-mail. Karla [email protected]
