    3. Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.265 / Virus Database: 137 - Release Date: 7/18/01 I guess it does not work with Hotmai.....well neither does Norton and the other expensive scans. I guess I need to run it now. All virus' do not have to be an opened attachment, by the way. ;-) You can get a virus from visiting a webpage. Just for all information. 3. I thin this was very rude. We who do genealogy get all kinds of emails and if we cannot be aware then what is the use? Not everyone can afford Norton and the expense of the updates, especially with the very dangerous ones out there. The virus of which this person spoke is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and Not all virus scans catch it. You can get a virus, opening an attachment from your father! Those who feel this is a shortcoming on our parts, to be concerned should maybe go to the site and read. Maybe even run the test to see if you have it. Then hope you computer boots back up. No virus scan is infalable, and when they are not updated for a few days after notification of said virus......well most of us have already deleted it 3-4 times and I WAS Using MCAFEE one of the best. Now I use another FREE, updated FREE, and automatically. It should be at the bottom of this post, if not email me and I will be more than glad to share. I agree that this is not a forum for a lot of posted hoaxs, etc. but I was one of those who felt the need to send info on. No one checked to see if it was a hoax, they ran the check and fix that I sent because they trust me, not to send false info....and this person is one of them. I am sorry I do not know who you are, but glad you listened. It is running rampid and Very Dangerous. What good is our list, if we all get a virus that distroys our computer......Norton is NOT infalable! http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-2001-22.html The next one gives you a test to see if you got it. That is the one I used. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]> http://www.mcafee.com/anti-virus/viruses/sircam/default.asp?cid=2371> AVG should be at the end of this post if not ask, privately please [email protected] >From: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: Virus directed at genealogists >Date: Sat, 28 Jul 2001 03:02:53 EDT > >Your Norton anti-virus program should catch those things, that is what it >is >for--you do not need to "buy" any other program. 3. Even if you know the e-mail address - beware. I had an e-mail from relative that never sends attachments and I deleted immediately. Beware of any attachments.

    1. Re: Virus directed at genealogists
    2. Your Norton anti-virus program should catch those things, that is what it is for--you do not need to "buy" any other program. But what you said about not downloading files and attachments from anyone you don't know is good advice. Please, can we stop talking about all the different worms, viruses, hoaxes, urban legends, etc. and get back to genealogy. Thanks.

    1. Virus directed at genealogists, again
    2. I apologize for having sent misinformation before. Apparently InoculateIt.Com Personal Edition (free) was discontinued back the first part of June - I was not aware of this. I searched their site, and they have partnered with E-Trust and there is an alternative. There is a price attached, though - it's $19.95 for the first year and then 9.95 for each year you stay subscribed. But you are able to try it for free for 60 days. I apologize for any confusion or problems this may have caused - I was only wanting to help. Good luck!

    1. Virus directed at genealogists
    2. <<Last night I received an e-mail which was directed to the genealogy world that had a virus in it.  Thank heavens I was suspicious and scanned it with my Norton first. I erased it so fast that I forgot to write down everything about it, but it had an attachment that had a .pif extension.  The message was labled something to the effect of Surnames--F.  Sender's name was Anna or Anne B. King.  Body of the message was unsigned, asking for my asistance. This was a worm type virus and very destructive.  I got a message from someone else this morning who received a similar message, but with a different subject line.  Her's had a subject line asking for her help. Be careful and very suspicious of anything with an attachment from someone you do not know!>> I know I may get some heat for forwarding this but feel that it is important and I want to share a great antivirus program, too. Go to www.inoculateit.com   It's free and best of all, you can set it to stop you from opening anything that is suspected to be infected. It has caught two viruses and a worm on ours. We have never been infected in almost three years. You can also set it to remind you to auto-download the virus updates as often as you want. We have ours set at once a week because, between 4 of us (including two teenagers), we get a lot of email, so we might actually ought to bump it up to twice a week. Good luck!

    3. Hello, I will be coming to Jefferson County tommorow, Friday. It was a quick decision. I'm headed that way for a wedding. Can anyone tell me addresses of places I should go to for obituaries, wills, and cemetery records? I have only a PO Box address for the genealogical society. I hope to find information on and graves for my Buchanan and Ragan relatives there. Thank you, Candice ===== Candice Buchanan 154 West Franklin Street, Apt. 1. Medical Information Needed
    2. List, Because of a family medical problem, I need to find some medical information that may have been published in the 1950s and need to verify the name of the doctor. There is a lady who has provided information on physicians of the past in the past. I believe she is a medical librarian and is located someplace in Arizona or New Mexico. Does anyone have her e-mail address? Thanks, Gloria

    2. Karin Goudy
    3. Hi - I would like any information (and source if possible) regarding the Carol Belle Ohio Lands. I would like to know where this land is located: County, Township, section, range etc. This is in connection with research that some of us are doing on the ancestry of William Goudy (ca. 1782-1846). This is the William Goudy who married Cassandra Crawford in Jefferson Co in 1809. Thanks very much.

    1. need help PLEASE........TIME IS RUNNING OUT
    2. Hi list, Pulling out all stops and need your help.  Have been researching surname BERTRUCHI all over Ohio, Illinois, and Iowa.  Time is off the essence as the family member wanting closure is ailing very quickly.  She is close to 90 years and has just suffered several more strokes, and isn't expect to live much longer.  She never knew anything about her husbands family and thus I am trying to help and now enlisted your help. Gr. Lewis born in Cook Co, Illinois the s/o of Mary Toddhunter and Joseph Henry BERTRUCHI. Sometime lived in Steubenville, Ohio.  Family story says due to a bad train accident both parents were killed (it is presumed this happened sometime around 1910-1920), and Gr. Lewis left Steubenville. His social security application is filed with Oxford Junction, Jones Co, Iowa in 1942. He is buried in the Porland, Oregon area; where his wife is ailing. Thanks, Sandy

    2. Alyce & Cloyce
    3. I have a picture of my grandfather, circa 1930. He is standing at a desk that is covered with what appears to be some type of testing equipment. His testing equipment is hooked up to a box slightly larger than a 1# loaf of bread with knobs. The box is wooden. On the wall is a pennant that says NRI. Does anyone have any idea what that could stand for? We thought, perhaps, National Radio Institute but I can find no information on it. Thank you.

    1. Map of Jefferson Co.
    2. Brian L. Cole
    3. Can anyone living in Jefferson Co., please tell me how and/or where I can get a current map of the county? I'm looking for someone who can pick up a map from a Realtor or other source and then mail it to me. ( I live in Texas.) I'm quite willing to pay for your trouble. Someone is going to tell me that I can get a co. map off the internet. Okay, I did look and several maps (or perhaps different sites had the same map) had roads with no identification. The map I want has every road identified. Someone will sell me maps of all the counties but I'd really like to get just the ones I need. Brian L. Cole Researching Coles from MD to OH
