    1. [OHJEFFER] virus
    2. Not true, I notified her several weeks ago, from another list; and several days after that saw another post from someone as to virus situation and lots of discussion as to why that particular webmaster hadn't blocked her. She's been spreading viruses on several lists for quite a while. Sandy I received mail from her multiple times a day from several lists and naturally deleted it.

    1. [OHJEFFER] [email protected]
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. Today I have received 4 virus attachment from [email protected] one for each of the OHJEFFER list postings I sent. I immediately contacted her when I received the first one, but she replied "i was unaware that a virus was being sent out as i do not have a virus on my computer, someone has hooked a virus to my emails and instead of deleting it it sends it out with attachments when i delete items."..thus, she doesn't seem to realize she has a virus, and so is doing nothing to get rid of it. ......... I then received 2 more from her computer address, one after each posting, and one after my email to her, personally. So, do NOT open anything from this address, and be aware that if you post something to the list you will, in all probability get one to your address, after your posting enters her in box. I have contacted her server, but they say they're swamped with complaints....so, I did the only thing I knew to do. I went to tools on my mail page and made a mail rule that will delete, from the server, any mail from her address. You might want to do the same!

    1. [OHJEFFER] asking for lookups
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. My post had nothing to do with Ms. Smith who, to my knowledge has never asked me, personally, for a lookup....so, I'm unsure as to why she feels it was directed at her?......I checked back, and the only thing I see for her is a query to the list in general, and NOTHING to me personally.......so, I'm afraid that you have confused querying a genealogical list with sending a personal request to a name on one of the gen. help lists....the 2 things are completely separate and have nothing to do with eachother! However, if you are unfamiliar with the county help lists, then let me assure you that they are great sources of information.....most every county has one, and I recommend you give them a try...all counties are different and they all offer different things, but you need to visit the county site for each different county in each state you have family in....and, see what they have. Here's how; visit http://www.usgenweb.com Click on State Pages for the project click on graphical map click on the state you're interested in click on the county..... Good luck....and, keep this as a favorite place....then, everytime you have a "new" ancestor in a "new" area, visit that county site first, to see what they offer. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jennifer Smith <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, October 17, 2001 1:11 PM Subject: Re: [OHJEFFER] asking for lookups > I wasn't asking for a look-up as I do not know what I could possibly have > looked-up. 2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. This is comparatively modern history, genealogically speaking, so you should be able to find contemporary info on the family. Have you checked with the Historical society in Steubenville, to see what newspapers they may have on film, that would contain his obituary? Obituaries are often full of great information.......many of the local newspapers are also on film in Columbus at the Historical Center, and available through interlibrary loan. Another possibility is the Schiappa Memorial Library, and the genealogist there, Sandy Day. You may write her at; Schiappa Memorial Library 4141 Mall Dr. Steubenville, Ohio 43952 Ask her the research fee.....it's been a while since she sent me anything, and I don't want to quote you what may be an incorrect price. Sandra " Does anyone know or have anything on a John Humble. Parents were William and Elizabeth, and he was married twice - Josephine Starr, first, and Mary Jane Niehart, second. 1. [OHJEFFER] asking for lookups
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. Lately, I've been noticing a trend that seems to be increasing....and is irritating. It seems that people go to county lookup lists, and simply send email queries to the names they find there. They don't ask for lookups in the books or CDs they find there with your name, but simply send an email to the volunteers they find, that has NOTHING to do with what the volunteer is prepared to help with. Many of my lookup "offers" concern marriages between very specific dates, but that doesn't keep folks from writing for marriages lookups 100 years later! And, they don't confine themselves to marriages, but often send the sort of "tell me all you know about Joe Blow" kind of queries...things that have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the resources I have listed. I've had several just in the last day or so for the Ohio Co, WV and the Jefferson Co, Ohio area, and imagine these folks are probably on the gen. lists. too. As such, may I suggest that you ALL take the following steps, when considering asking for help.......view the various county lookup lists, note those volunteers you think my help you, send them an email with your query, INCLUDING the name of the book you wish your lookup done from (either in the subject slot or in the first line of the message), and do NOT ask for any info they have not indicated they can help with! Volunteers have listed the info they are prepared to use for FREE lookups.......take them at their word and do NOT bother them with questions concerning things other than that. In the past I've always sent an email back, saying that I had no resources to help in this area, etc., but with the increase in this practice I'm now just going to delete them and move on to the emails of folks with queries I actually CAN answer!

    1. [OHJEFFER] John Sapp info needed
    2. I was interested in the reference to John Sapp and his second wife, Abigail Willis Sapp. Actually, I am looking for evidence that John Sapp and his first wife Hettie Barkus were the parents of George Sapp b 23 Sep 1795 who served in the War of 1812 and later moved out of the area, probably in the direction of Athens County. My gt-gt grandfather, George Sapp b 1819 is believed to be his son. George, Sr.'s wife may have been Lydia who was born in VA (perhaps in an area that is now WV). He apparently died soon after leaving Jefferson Co. Any information about John or his son George would be welcome. I know it is a distant connection, but it never hurts to ask. Carol in CA

    2. Jennifer Smith
    3. I am trying to find out who my ggg grandfathers parents and siblings were. According to his Civil War pension file, he was born in Jefferson Co, OH. His date of birth is Sept. 26, 1831, he was married in Daviess Co, IN to Barbary Noland on Aug 20, 1859. How he got from Ohio to Indiana is a mystery, my best guess is that he worked for the railroad that was built up from Lexington to Washington, IN. If there is anyone with information, I would be happy to share with you.

    1. [OHJEFFER] Clendenning et al.
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. Have you tried going back to the 1860 census, or even the 1850, to see if you can find Susan as a wife, in a Clendenning household? I'd try that, personally. I've checked various marriage records, and found a couple other spellings, and I'll pass these marriages on to you, in case they fit in somehow: James clendenning m. Amanda Galloway in Jeff co 3--8-1850 James Clindinnin m. Nancy Inks 2-23-1802 Jeff. co here are a few others, with different spellings; Elizabeth Chendennin m. Alexander Call 2-10-1831 Jeff Co.. Reasin Clendennin m. Rachel Myers 12-1-1838 Jeff. Co. 2 other spellings I found were Clindinen and Clindening...all variations, I'm sure, on the same name...so, when you research, you need to watch for ALL spellings, plus the more common ones; Clendenen and Clendenin. Sandra I haven't much information on this family. Elizabeth (or Lizzie) was listed on the 1870 census as born in Ohio. The same for Susan. Susan was the head of household, Lizzie the daughter and living in Florence, Wash. Co. Relatives told me Susan's husband was killed in Civil War. Did they move here after the war or before? My other question is what was her husband's first name? I believe if I could find the husband's first name I could move on but am at a so called brick wall on this. Looking for a lot of help!!!!!!!!!!!!! >
