They are doing an illegal thing! They get funding from people's tax $$$$$$$, and they should not be charging for heritagequest,any of you that did pay, you need to ask your State Att., Gen., to file a lawsuit, it is a PUBLIC library, therefore, it is supposed to be a free service! My hometown Library has this, and it is free, because it is, like all libraries in my state, A PUBLIC LIBRARY! Public libraries and private libraries can subscribe to Heritage Quest now....they no longer sell their subscriptions to individuals. To use Heritage Quest online the people must have a Multnomah Co. library card which is free to residents of Multnomah Co. Here in Portland, Oregon the Multnomah Co. library will sell a library card to Oregonians who live outside of Multnomah Co. but it costs $75. My cousin who lives in Salem, OR can't afford the $75 so instead she subscribed to the Godfrey Library for $35.
