I am now looking for a cemetery location for Sarah E. Detty Cooker. She died January 11, 1902. Would also like to know if anyone has any information on her parents/family if they have her in their genealogy. Thanks! "Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas. Do you have information on John Albert? I think that he could be the grandson of my g-g-g-grandfather Philipp Albert. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 22, 2004 5:40 PM Subject: [OHJACKSO-L] Re: OHJACKSO-D Digest V04 #39 > Does anyone know the name of the cemetery that sits on a hill, between > Jackson and Beaver on the road called Beaver Pike. There is a death in the cemetery records for Jackson Co., OH that lists Mahala Vance, Died Nov 9, 1864 age 22 yrs, 10 m, 1 day. That would have made her born early 1842. She was the same age as Mahala Hunter in the 1860 Liberty Twp., Jackson Co., OH census. Mahala Hunter was living with George Glassburn and his new wife Barbara Miller Vance. How was Mahala Hunter related to the Glassburns and did she marry a Vance? Or was she a Vance??? There is no marriage record for her in Jackson Co. Thanks, Carole
I am looking for the siblings and the ancestors of Perry Vance, b, abt 1821, perhaps in OH or VA where his parents were originally from. Perry was married in Jackson Co., OH in 1844 to Margaret Ann Weese (Ruce). It is possible that he was the son of Henry Vance and his wife Susanna. She married 2nd to Isaac Morgan in Jackson Co., OH in Dec. 1847. Thanks
Thanks again to all who responded to my question. I have been through the books in the clerk's office and the card file at the Health Dept. with no luck. Would the Health Dept have birth records for folks that are not in their card file?
1867 to 1909 is birth & death for Probate court 1909--present is at Health Department. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Friday, February 27, 2004 4:42 AM Subject: Re: [OHJACKSO-L] record of "delayed" birth registrations and corrections >I received a document with my grandparents signatures on it. I received a document with my grandparents signatures on it. Seems to me I got it in office where marriage records were kept. But that has been a few years ago. My Dad was a railroader, so I do not think he had to have a Social Security number when they first come out. My aunt need a SS No. to go to work during the war, so she needed a birth certificate. They were born in Jackson Co in 1902 and 1905. I have no idea if all the late records were where they were.
When I got copies about 20 years ago, they were in Jackson County Court House.
I know at Jackson Co when you get one of those birth records at the Health Dept. that paperwork is all attached to it. So had name changes etc. on them. I don't think there was a list .. They are just with the regular birth certificates. So that would be the place to call and ask anyhow.. Susie
Thanks for responding to my question about delayed birth registration records. Do you know whether these files are located in Jackson Co. or Columbus? Thanks again, Ron
My Father's birth record is in a delayed file of Jackson Co. births. He had to get a birth certificate when men had to register for WW11 draft. My aunt 's birth was recorded at the same time, because a birth certificate was required for war plant jobs. My grandparents were both living at the time and were able to certify the births. I've heard of some people who had to get a late filed certificate to be eligible for a passport.
Does any one know if there exists for Jackson Co. a record of "delayed" birth registrations and corrections? In Lawrence Co. I was able to find my paternal grandfather's birth record by looking through microfilm containing this information. He was born in 1888, but his birth wasn't reported or recorded at that time. In 1946 he registered his birth (probably for Social Security reasons) by applying and obtaining affidavits from two individuals who had knowledge of his birth and had known him for a long time. I was also able to find his brother's birth record in this manner. He was born in 1895 but didn't register his birth until 1958. I suspect the same thing has happened with my paternal grandmother who was born in 1893 and died in 1973 and possibly one of my maternal great grandmothers who was born in 1875 and died in 1966. Both were born in Jackson Co. I would appreciate any help. Ron Walke
My parents were married in 1923. I think at that time, the age of consent in Ohio was 18 for girls and 21 for boys. Both were 20 at timemof marriage. My paternal grandparents had to give permission, maternal grandparents did not.
I'm told the age of consent was 18 in Ohio at that time but I don't know firsthand. In any case, Wheeling, West Virginia was a popular spot for Ohioans to elope depending on where you lived.
Does anyone know at which time did divorce records become something that was kept and recorded? Also, I know that according to some of my sources, At one time you had to be 21 to marry in the state of Ohio, therefore many went to Greenup, KY. Is this true for all marriages around 1917? Or could a couple get married with parents consent in Ohio before age 21? My grandparents were married in August of 1917 according to both of their obits, but we have been unable to locate any record of their marriage.
