Helen, No I am not familiar with that name. Mary Mary, Do you know anything about a Jane Bowling, Bolen that died before 1935 and was divorced from an ATWOOD? Helen
Schannon, My great-grandfather, Daniel, came from TN to KY. He served in the civil war (Union, the mounted 39th KY Volunteer Infantry) then made his way to OH (mainly Pike Co.). His son Earnest (my grandpa) was born in KY but lived in Jackson. My grandfather had 7 half brothers and sisters and 14 brothers and sisters. So there are many relatives of his older half-siblings that are unknown to me. I have info on the Bolen's that go back to the Cherokee. Some of it has not been absolutely proven, so that is more of what I am looking for right now. The line runs as follows: Earnest Bowling Daniel Bowling/Bolen (wives: Fannie Halbert, Dollie Jane Gibson (my line), and a third wife (no children) Louisa (Bolen)Gibson Michael Bolen/Bolden John Bolden (who was full Cherokee and married to Dicey) > Did your Bowling/Bolen family happen to come from WV & other places in Ohio? My Grandparents, Rosa Burcham and James Ira Yates, lived last in Jackson Co. He was born 1885 and her in 1890 in Gallia Co. James' father, Jacob Yates, was born 1840 in Lawrence Co. James' mother, Alsepeth (Alsie) Jane Clarkson Yates was born 1844 in Lawrence Co. Jacob's parents were Norris born abot. 1803) and Margaret McQuary Yates (died abt. 1844). Norris then married her sister Nancy McQuary. That is as far back as I can get with the Yates family. As for the Dulaney's, my grandmother was Phoebe Isabelle Dulaney, born 1882 Gallia Co.and died 1971 in Oak Hill, Jackson Co.) She married William Thomas Simpson in 1900. Her line goes as follows: parents - William Andrew (b 1848 -d 1919 in Oak Hill, Jackson Co.) and Elizabeth Jane Brothers Dulaney (born1852) grandparents - Hiram (b abt.1820 in VA) and Barbara Ann Yeager Dulaney (born abt 1829) great grandparents - Elijah (b 1784 in VA) and Marchele Griffith Dulaney (d 1873 in Jackson Co.) great great grandparents - Samuel (b 1750) and Mary Hagey Dulaney great great great grandfather - William B. Dulaney Some of these Dulaneys also spelled their name Delaney. Hope this is a help to someone. Any information you might have on these families would be greatly appreciated. If this is your line, I also have childrens names and some dates. Thanks, Shirley
Tom, I have a William Stephenson (b. VA) about 1800-1801. He married a Milia HALE in Jackson Co, OH. They supposeably had about 10 children in Jackson Co. (I haven't had time to investigate their names). His wife Milia HALE moves on (before/after his death?) and dies in Kosaciusko Co, IN and is buried in Leesburg Cemetery, Plain Twp, Kosciusko Co, IN. The Hale family descend from Moses Hale and my Milia POOR Hale line. I research POOR's along with others. Helen > >> I am research the following surnames: > > Stephenson, William > >
Leanna, I have 2 William Gilliland's but NEITHER are born to a John Gilliland. ONe is William E. U. Gilliland who is born to Peter and Isabella Brunton Gilliland. The parents were married in 1875. The other William Gilliland 1840-1897 was married to a Dever and son of Samuel Gilliland. I do have several Dawson's but none are Melvina. If you ever find more Dawson's let me know. For [email protected] Helen: Thanks for the information on the Farrars. Gilson: Richard Henry Gilson is my gg grandfather through his son Henry Elliott Gilson to Florence Eleanor Gilson who was married to William Gilbert "Jake" Rice. I do have some information on the others you mentioned. Let me know if you are interested.. My Grandmother, Florence E. Gilson Rice, gave me a 46 page document entitled "The Genealogy of Wilson and Allied Families From 1796 to 1962" by Rex Stephenson (b.1907), son of Dora Belle Farrar & George W. Stephenson. I have been able to obtain a lot of Farrar, McGhee (particularly Elizabeth's line) and Morgan info. I've had it over 20 years, but only first looked at it about a year or so ago. I have found the information about the Farrars pretty reliable. Harvey Franklin Farrar: according to the Stephenson document, he moved to Byesville in 1910 and was still there in 1961. Probably "Frank". I've also seen him as Franklin Harvey. McGhee: In rereading the Stephenson document on Elizabeth Farrar & Wm Lewis McGhee, I found he had listed 5 children: Harold (b. 1893), Frank (b. 1900), Wilbur (b. 1903), Myron (b. 1906), & Glendon (b.1909). Myron & Mary Pritchett were listed with 4 children. Frank & Dorthy Wyatt were listed with 4 children. Harold married Marcella Peters & they had 2 children. Wilbur married Leah Miller & they had 4 children. Glen(don) married Cathrine Burger & they had 2 children. Grover Farrar: His death date, marriage info info & residence information are from the Stephenson document. His date of birth is from his birth record ( Jackson Co., OH Births Vol B 1879 - 1890, Probate Judges Office). Clara Blanch: The Stephenson document lists her other 3 children as Burl Carlton (12-10-1907 to 1952) married Erea Ellis 6-30-1931; Proctor Guy (1906-1927); and Donald Lee (1910 - aft 1961). Hannah Cemetery: I don't know where this is. Richard Allen Farrar: He is the son of Peter Farrar and the brother of Samuel B. Farrar. Samual B. Farrar is the father of Samuel Harvey Farrar who married Rachel Wilson. Poor: I have an Anna Kirkpatrick (b. abt 1800 Scotland) married (1) to ? Poor. They had 3 children: Mary Ann (b. abt 1832); Madison (female); & Elizabeth. Anna married (2) James Rice abt 1835. James was the son of William Brice Rice, Sr. She was James' 3d wife. I have a Joseph S. Poor who married Elizabeth Rice 1-24-1847 in Jackson Co. Elizabeth was the daughter of James Rice (same as above) and his 2d wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Ramsey. The Poor information was provided to me by Noell Rice (ricemail @midriver.com) who has done extensive research on the Rice clan. The Stephenson document lists the children of the McGhee children and in some cases their children. Let me know if you are interested in any more info that I have. In addition to the Rice, Gilson, Farrar lines I'm researching the Walk(e), Shepard & Schneider (Snider, Snyder) in & around Jackson, Lawrence & Scioto counties. Ron I have been trying to get this to you since Tuesday. It keeps getting bounced back saying your mailbox is full, yet I see correspondence from you here. Maybe something is wrong on my end.
The following is a roll call of my lines within the counties of Jackson and Vinton. I am research the following surnames: Thompson, William Keating, Thomas Newman, John Eberts, Leonard Smith, Hamlin Norton, Anna Anderson, Lee Girty/Gerty, Timothy Stephenson, William
Hi: A roll call is a great idea. The surnames I am researching are: YATES, SIMPSON, DULANEY, BROTHERS, and BURCHAM. They lived in Jackson County, Lawrence County, and Gallia Co. Hope someone else is also searching for these names. Shirley
Sorry wish I could help but I don't know where my SHORTs came from. The census on the same William SHORT in OH in different years says he was born in OH and another says VA, so I have not even been able to figure out which of those states is the right one. And I don't know of his father before him either. This is my brick wall. Becky Blystone
Hi Helen, Thank you for the information. I believe the Slavens are my bunch as some of them were in Lawrence Co.,some in Pike County and my ancestor and her husband moved to Jackson Co. after they were married. They are descended from John Slavens of County Tyrone, Ireland who emigrated to America -Va.- and he fought in the Rev. War. I am sorry to say that my Evans,Johnson information is just that my great grandparents David J.Evans of Wales and Elizabeth Johnson married on July 5, 1880 and lived at Glen Roy when my grandmother was born in 1885. I do remember all of David's wives names and the names of their children and I vaguely remember my grandmother Nora Evans Walton telling me once that her mother Elizabeth Johnson's mothers maiden name was Rittenhouse. I am afraid that is all I know on this line and I have searched for years. It is very depressing. Thank goodness I have had more success on my other lines. I did not know there was a Slavens cemetary in Pike county and I would like to go there. Do you know where it is located? Here are the names I'm researching. Sure would appreciate any help - and if I can offer any, I certainly would be pleased to do it! Atkinson (Atkeson) Cook Donnally James Long Strider The James and Cook families seem to have trekked west to Ohio in the late 1780 - 1790's, and first settled in Belpre (the Ohio Company of Associates). The other families I find in the Jackson area in the early 1800's. Thanks in advance for any help! Leslie Great River, NY
