    1. RE: [OHJACKSO-L] where in Vendocia
    2. Jerry Pearson
    3. According to the 1895 Atlas, http://www.livgenmi.com/1895/OH/Index/uv.htm, Vendocia was a town with a population of 284 in Van Wert County. It had a post office and a railroad. Jerry -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, March 14, 2004 10:33 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [OHJACKSO-L] where in Vendocia Hello all, I was wandering if anyone can tell me if Vendocia is a town in Ohio somewhere or a word to describe something. Stupid question, I know. It is used in a Newspaper like this: George Irelan, a Vendocia man, drove to Spencerville, loaded up on spirits of corn and terribly abused is horse. He was arrested and held in prison for two days, and compelled to pay a fine. Thanks in advance, Crystal

    2. Schannon - Thank you for your help! My next move it to go to the OHS to see if there is a notice in the Paper. Since he was a Postmaster twice, and 20 year resident, I would think there would be something there. Wish me luck.... Thanks for your help! Lisa

    1. Re: [OHJACKSO-L] resources
    2. Schannon - I have been trying to find my husband's Brady relations in Jackson County for some time, and have run into major brick walls with the Jackson County Court House folks. I know that John and Jane/Jennie Brady lived in Jackson County in 1880 and that their son William E. was on the 1880 census with them and in subsequently buried in Coalton Cemetery in July of the same year. He is not listed on the Jackson County death index. I also know that John & Jane lived in Jackson in 1900 and Jane moved in with her daughter and SIL by 1905 (Montgomery Co.) meaning John died about that time. As far as I can determine, there is no headstone for John in Coalton, but I cannot fathom that Jane would have buried him anywhere else. Jackson Co. has no death record for him either. Any help you can give would be extremely appreciated!!! Please let me know! Thank you in advance! Lisa DuBois [email protected]

    2. There used to be a Bolin or Bolin's Mills in what is now Vinton County, I believe. Someone visited and told me it is now just scrub and brush. Perhaps an undertaking of one of your family? Gary Radcliffe West Covina, CA

    3. I noticed the Shepard name in your list of interest for Jackson/Lawrence/Scioto Co's. I have a Gilbert Shepherd (Various spellings...) He was born about 1817 Ohio and died sometime after 1880 as that is the last census I can find him in. He was married three times in Lawrence Co. Ohio: 1st to Nancy Haines in 1842, to Nancy Melvin in 1845 (my line) and last to Mrs. Sarah Furguson in 1867. Gilbert had childen: ?William H b ABt 1843, Malissa 1849 Scioto Co., Ohio, Rebecca circa 1853, Martha abt 1860. Would this line connect into yours? Let me know if so. Thanks, Peggy -----Original Message----- From: Ron Walke [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, March 12, 2004 11:15 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [OHJACKSO-L] Farrar, Gilson, McGhee, Poor For [email protected] Helen: Thanks for the information on the Farrars. Gilson: Richard Henry Gilson is my gg grandfather through his son Henry Elliott Gilson to Florence Eleanor Gilson who was married to William Gilbert "Jake" Rice. I do have some information on the others you mentioned. Let me know if you are interested.. My Grandmother, Florence E. Gilson Rice, gave me a 46 page document entitled "The Genealogy of Wilson and Allied Families From 1796 to 1962" by Rex Stephenson (b.1907), son of Dora Belle Farrar & George W. Stephenson. I have been able to obtain a lot of Farrar, McGhee (particularly Elizabeth's line) and Morgan info. I've had it over 20 years, but only first looked at it about a year or so ago. I have found the information about the Farrars pretty reliable. Harvey Franklin Farrar: according to the Stephenson document, he moved to Byesville in 1910 and was still there in 1961. Probably "Frank". I've also seen him as Franklin Harvey. McGhee: In rereading the Stephenson document on Elizabeth Farrar & Wm Lewis McGhee, I found he had listed 5 children: Harold (b. 1893), Frank (b. 1900), Wilbur (b. 1903), Myron (b. 1906), & Glendon (b.1909). Myron & Mary Pritchett were listed with 4 children. Frank & Dorthy Wyatt were listed with 4 children. Harold married Marcella Peters & they had 2 children. Wilbur married Leah Miller & they had 4 children. Glen(don) married Cathrine Burger & they had 2 children. Grover Farrar: His death date, marriage info info & residence information are from the Stephenson document. His date of birth is from his birth record ( Jackson Co., OH Births Vol B 1879 - 1890, Probate Judges Office). Clara Blanch: The Stephenson document lists her other 3 children as Burl Carlton (12-10-1907 to 1952) married Erea Ellis 6-30-1931; Proctor Guy (1906-1927); and Donald Lee (1910 - aft 1961). Hannah Cemetery: I don't know where this is. Richard Allen Farrar: He is the son of Peter Farrar and the brother of Samuel B. Farrar. Samual B. Farrar is the father of Samuel Harvey Farrar who married Rachel Wilson. Poor: I have an Anna Kirkpatrick (b. abt 1800 Scotland) married (1) to ? Poor. They had 3 children: Mary Ann (b. abt 1832); Madison (female); & Elizabeth. Anna married (2) James Rice abt 1835. James was the son of William Brice Rice, Sr. She was James' 3d wife. I have a Joseph S. Poor who married Elizabeth Rice 1-24-1847 in Jackson Co. Elizabeth was the daughter of James Rice (same as above) and his 2d wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Ramsey. The Poor information was provided to me by Noell Rice (ricemail @midriver.com) who has done extensive research on the Rice clan. The Stephenson document lists the children of the McGhee children and in some cases their children. Let me know if you are interested in any more info that I have. In addition to the Rice, Gilson, Farrar lines I'm researching the Walk(e), Shepard & Schneider (Snider, Snyder) in & around Jackson, Lawrence & Scioto counties. Ron I have been trying to get this to you since Tuesday. It keeps getting bounced back saying your mailbox is full, yet I see correspondence from you here. Maybe something is wrong on my end.
