Thanks guys, I got it taken care of!! I do the Heritage quest thing also :) Crystal
Two questions: First- I am searching for someone who may have access to the cemetery inscritions book. Last year, I xeroxed some papers at the Jackson Co. Library. I did not mark which cemetery one of the pages is from. The page numbers are 866 and 867. The top of 866 has Thomas J. Evans. The last entry on 867 is Ann Jones, wife of David E. Jones. This listing possibly has my gr-gr-gr-grandparents. I had assumed that I would find them at Horeb, since they were founding members of the Horeb Community. I need to know which cemetery this listing is from. THANKS! Second question- for anyone who looks at this, there are two entries each for James J. Jenkins and Jane E. Jenkins. Note the similarities--- for James J., the 27th is mentioned in both entries. (My date from a news article says that James died on FEB. 27, 1840.) Both entries are for someone 52 years and native of Wales. Then the entries for the two Jane E. Jenkinses have similarities in death months (both July). The second entry fits my ancestor's age at death, since I know she lived to be at least 85 in the 1880 census. Could this be a transcription error? Anyone care to venture a guess? Thanks, loads. To anyone who might have missing pictures on Ohio Tombstone Photo Project. Computers, being what they are, have a tendency to crash. This is what happened to Mr. Sizeloves computer and a number of photos were lost. If you think you lost something, simply resend. It's up and running now. I lost four whole cemeteries. I just hiked up my pants legs, waded in, rescanned and resent my photos. No problem, I'm sure he will have them on in no time. Have a nice day. I have found recently that www.genealogy.com has the census indexed for 1860 1870 1900 1910 and others that Ancestry doesn't have. I have found more of my family info that way. It costs $99. a year for it. But if you think of all the driving etc it's worth it. I use both www.ancestry.com and www.genealogy.com now to get most of the census indexed. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Rose" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 27, 2004 8:15 PM Subject: Re: [OHJACKSO-L] 1900census indexed? > Crystal, > > The 1900 and 1910 census are not indexed on Ancestry and I'm not sure if all > of 1920 and 1930 (or some of the others) are complete yet. Crystal, The 1900 and 1910 census are not indexed on Ancestry and I'm not sure if all of 1920 and 1930 (or some of the others) are complete yet. I use Heritage Quest Census, available online free through my local library, for the years not done on Ancestry. It seems to have all the years that Ancestry doesn't and some that it does. The images are also often much better quality (easier to read). You might check with nearby libraries that subscribe to Heritage and get a library card where it is available. Lot's of luck. Bill
Many of you are no doubt receiving mail with a virus attachment that has a RootsWeb From address. They are not coming from RootsWeb. The worm or virus or whatever is faking the Rootsweb address and is actually coming from somewhere else. RootsWeb does not allow attachments. Never open an attachment you are not expecting, even if it appears to come from someone you know. Check with them first to see if they sent it. And of course, always use an virus checker. Almost every virus created in the past few years fakes the From address and other headers. If you receive a virus, you can be pretty sure it did not come from the person in the From address. It does no good to contact them. ======================================== Charles R. Hi--I meant to tell you that (re my previous e-mail about the Tuel/Tuell line) that the 1870 Washington Co., OH census lists Edward Tuell as having a son James, age 14, born in OH and working in a roll mill. That makes James' approx. year of birth as 1856; could he be your James Fuel? There are noTuel/Tuells (or similar spellings) in the 1880 Washington Co., OH census. Found no James Tuel/Tuell in either marriage books for Monroe and Wash. Counties. Hi--I have seen your mention several times of the name Fuel. Is there any chance it once could have been Tuel/Tuell?? As we know, the first letter of each name can easily look like the other, depending on how it is written. I just looked in my "Monroe, County Ohio Marriages 1867-1917" compiled by Wes Cochran (who has compiled many things for that OH-WV area) and there are many Tuels in that book. I believe possibly a brother (Daniel Dye, Jr. or another brother) of my 6th gt gfa John R. Dye may have wed a Polly Tuel (I think that was her name---I could find it somewhere in my notes if you need me to). My Dye line migrated to Washington-Monroe Co's in OH in later 1700's-early 1800's. I am not sure if Daniel, Jr. and "Polly" (or whoever) met and wed in the Prince William Co., VA area or after the arrival in OH. Haven't worked on that yet in my genealogy but have often wordered if Tuels may have migrated with the Dyes, etc., since it seems that my 7th gt gfa Daniel Dye (Sr.) headed the great many-families migration (and especially if Daniel Jr. {or whoever}) and Polly wed in VA) from Prince William Co. to OH. Daniel, Jr. operated the first ferry boat between Wash.-Monroe Co's and WV. The Monroe Co. ct hse burned (I don't recall when) and marriage records are not available before 1867. I have 2 census books (1850 and 1880) compiled by Wes Cochran. The index of the 1850 lists 3 Tuell families and one Tuill family, all living in Jackson Twp., OH. The Tuill could be a son of one of the eldest Tuell (conjecturing as we tend to do in genealogy). Will include for you here the nameof each householder, his age and place of birth and the household number in case there might be a connection. Daniel Tuell, age 58, p.o.b. VA # 173 Joseph Tuell, age 33 p.o.b. OH # 169 Jacob Tuill, age 30, p.o.b. OH # 53 Daniel Tuell, age 27, p.o.b. OH # 174 The neighbor to Daniel Tuell age 58 is one of my relatives, William Dye. The 1870 Monroe Co. census index has 3 Tuel (all with one "l") listings. : Center Twp: Rhonda Tuel, age 27 p.o.b. in living in the County Intirmatory # 384-377 Jackson Twp: John Tuel, age 22. p.o.b., OH living with Stephen Payne family (residence # 36-36) no children Daniel Tuel, age 50, p.o.b. OH residence #103 (he and wife listed as having 9 children) The 1870 Washington Co., OH census shows 2 Tuell (as spelled in the index) listings (found no listings in the 1880): Marietta Twp: Edward Tuell, age 52, p.o.b. Ireland (wife Jane, also) residence # 10-10 Marietta 2nd Ward: Martha Tull (spelled Tuell in index) age 18 p.o.b. OH (domestic servant in the home of Daniel Sayre , residence #229-242) This is quite a bit of info but maybe you can make a connect for your line if there has been in fact a misspelling of the name---I am one that overturns any possible stone for a clue. Let me know if I can try to find any more info if you think there is a link-up. According to the will of her brother, James, Martha left two children Gertie and Allen (Allison Loren Stiffler born 1881) I got a family file that Allison married Gertrude Thompson in 1903. So far OK BUT then I also have an Allison Stiffler born 1881 married to Bertha Longberger and had a child Frank Lincolnall Stiffler in 1903. Are there two different Allison Stifflers. I don't have any documents to support any of this other than the above mentioned will naming Gertie and Allen with their ages and father. Any and all help appreciated. Take care Marilyn
I live in Citrus County, Florida and i logged in my library card no. and tried to access Heritage Quest. Here it is called Ancestry Plus and you must be in the library to access it. If this is something i should take up with a state representative, i would like to know. When you are in our library you are lucky if you can get any time on a computor there. If anyone has an proven answer to my question, please respond to me at [email protected] as i know OhJackson has expressed that they would like to end the discussion on this subject as they believe it is not related to genealogy. I live in Ft. Myers, Florida and have unlimited free access to the Heritage Quest databases and all of the census records by using my local library card. I log onto my county library web site, enter the bar code number from the back of my library card (free library card) and then click onto Heritage Quest. It's easy, it's free, and the census images are very clear and printable.
