My ancestors came from Frederick, MD or Berkeley Co, VA (now WVa)- still figuring that out, but they settled at what is now Hannibal Ohio and founded Bare's Landing, (changed to Baresville then Hannibal). This area is directly across the Ohio from Wetzel County so would be particularly interesting to read about Lewis Wetzel. The date my ancestors moved is unclear, but i've read they went to Ohio anywhere from 1800-1815. I assume they came by flat boat, as they had all their belongings and several children. They settled in that area for over 100 years. thanks for sharing, i would love to hear personal stories about that adventurous time.
