    1. [OHIO] Foster- Ohio to Mississippi (1830s and 1840s)
    2. John Patrick Quinn (Seán Pádraig Ó Cuinn)
    3. Hello! I am interested in a group of men named Foster who were likely brothers. They migrated to Hinds and Warren Counties in the late 1830s. They appear to have originated in Ohio; however, the family was likely had been in Virginia and Kentucky prior to moving into Ohio. My ancestor was John J. Foster who was born sometime between 1820-1825 and died in Hinds County 1843-1847. He first appeared in Hinds Co., MS in 1838 when he served as bondman for the marriage of William Foster (b. 1810, VA, d. 1850, Hinds Co., MS) to Sarah Jane Lee. This William was likely his brother. Other possible brothers were Claudius B. Foster (b. 1816, KY) and Ralph Foster (b. 1822 OH, d. after 1850, Vicksburg, MS). One possible clue to the origins of this family is that Samuel Guthrie (Guttery) (b. 1817, OH, d. aft 1880, MO ) served as bondsman when John J. Foster and Elizabeth Clark were married in Hinds Co., MS in 1840. Since there are several indicators that the Fosters may have been from Ohio and with Samuel Guthrie (Guttery) serving as bondman, I have often wondered if there was a connection between these families. Any help will be most appreciated. John Patrick Quinn Houston, TX
