If those people insist on being rude to you, then you have no obligation to help them in their endeavours, in my humble opinion. Yes, I know exactly what you mean by those Moravian ancestors that married Native Americans. I have a couple of itches in the same spot but I haven't been able to prove a thing. Most of mine seem to have lived in what is now North Carolina at the time and the names of their spouses simply have to be Cherokee, Shawnee, Chickasaw or something other than European. But how can I prove that these people didn't simply use a Native American name just because they liked the sound of it? I have at least one case in my tree where that's exactly what had happened. I'm planning on going down into the Carolinas & northern Georgia later this year to check out some of these people. Are there any names in particular that you'd like for me to check up on for you? I go to court hous! es, cemeteries, churches, pastors' homes, Hysterical Societies (sorry, I just have to call them that for no good reason...), and wherever I think I may hit pay dirt. Believe it or not, nursing homes for the elderly are wondeful places to get info. I simply ask the nurse in charge if she thinks so-and-so's memory is to be trusted. And, I'm rarely disappointed. The people I've met at these places often remember their pasts better than more recent events and we both are happy to have shared some time together. Another good place to look is at a state's historical records. Everyone has this right, no matter what the employees there would have you believe. I DO pay taxes and I vote and if I want somebody's death date from 200 years ago and they've got it, then its' time for them to cough it up. LOL I have some things on the Moravians but not a lot. I have a good bit on the Melungeons (which people often confuse the two), and I have quite a few Melungeon ancestors. Your best bet ! for finding them is in the Shelbyville, KY and Sinking Springs, OH are as. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
