I just love those old pictures! The one that caught my attention was the Daniel Lightfoot who had moved from Baltimore to Cumberland Co., PA. This was the same places and time frame for the Penn family. I have Penn women for whom I haven't found spouses, so maybe we'll find out something one way or another. Of course Quakers married Native Americans. I've been saying here that Shadrach Penn married Jennie, daughter of Tecumseh. Shadrach was William Penn's great-grandson and very much a Quaker. I'm going to have to look a little further into these Lightfoots from Virginia. Those ones that moved to Baltimore. I know how hard those old censuses can be to read sometimes and the fact that the 1790 Census only lists the Head of Household almost always doesn't help matters much, does it? At this time frame, the Penns literally owned Baltimore and were doing their level best to get people to move out onto the frontier, which at that time meant western ! Pennsylvania. My Shadrach Penn was already in southern Ohio. Maybe there's no relationship physically but there had to have been some sort of connection even if it was a close friendship for a certain Penn to have entrusted Mr. Lightfoot with the Penn book intended for Shadrach Penn in Ohio. I also read on the website that you posted where some had to live at the poor house for a while. Perhaps one of them fell ill while there and spent some time at the Penn Hospital in Baltimore? I saw a list of patients living there under the 1790 Census. While I never saw a Lightfoot, there may be another connection that I'm not aware of. I'm the type who just doesn't know enough to quit. My tombstone will probably read, "She left no stone unturned". LOL Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
