Author: lspatny Surnames: Marquard Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.unknown/1493.1.3.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The census takers may have spelled his name wrong.  They actually spelled it Marqait.  The area was called Brooklyn Township.  At that time Philip and Joseph lived with them.  They were on pages 442-443.  In the city directory in 1861 the name was spelled Marquot.  It would be interesting to find the immigration papers to see how it was spelled.                                                                                                                I read somewhere that Marquard meant boundary guard. In Tubingen Germany which is close to Baden Baden there was a restaurant that mentioned the Marquards  It was on Herienberger St. 34 which was called Sills Scwabisch and specialized in vegt dishes.
