    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: JEANNINERICHARDS21 Surnames: Tomlinson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.unknown/761.2994.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I just happened on the Tomlinson message board because my gggrandmother was a Tomlinson in GA and Ala. Often in the 1950 era, the mother traveled from the farm to the city, across the state, and sometimes from one state to another trying to keep the neighborhood from knowing of the pregnancy. Most mothers would have given anything to keep the baby. Some lived with family members others stayed at church adoption buildings. I would check school lists of students at one of these class reunion lists on internet (have no idea the cost to join or find someone already a member) or check in the librarys around the state and scan the school annuals, or old telephone books. A lot of people in small towns did not have phones in the forty's or early 50's so they would not be in a phone directory. Our family got our first phone maybe 1944 era because of my fathers position in the oil business, he needed a phone to order parts, greases, supplies, etc. Our neighbors did not have phones. Children did not use the phones at that time. Look in census for any Tomlinson families in the state. People did not travel very far until after 1950 era. Is there any religion connected to your adoption? On rootsweb or their archives, search county tax records for the Tomlinson name. Keep trying anything. The next Census will be released soon, so maybe that will help you. Good Luck! Jeannine Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
