Most of the time it is NOT accurate. You should look at trees as suggestions and then find the records or publications which back up (or disprove) that information. Ancestry.com really does genealogy a disservice by encouraging everyone to share trees! You need to change your tree since Joel's marriage record has his parents as: Father: David Kirby and Mother: Rachel Jane Cary. Joel would have provided that information himself, so it would have been accurate. A good place for you to start would be getting a beginning genealogy book from your library.
