You know way back then people took different surnames. Some for no reason at all. We had a family at Ulen,MN. who two of them changed their name because the postman got their mail mixed up. One brother kept the family name tho.Makes no sense to me but to some people maybe they didnt want any one else to know who wrote to them. Thank you. Viola. David P. Rowlee born May 24, 1939, Erin Rowlee born between 1940-1941 & Gary E. Rowlee born 1942.Born to Genevieve Stanley Combs & Carl (Karl) L. Rowlee (my dad). Geneveive divorced my dad in July of 1943 and remarried Charles L. Holder in May of 1945. She had two son's with Charles Holder, and after speaking with her son Charles recently, he was not aware his mother had children from a previous marriage, and provided a name of her longtime friend. According to Genevieve's longtime friend Leroy, she placed my brother's up for adoption in either late 1943 or sometime in 1945 before her marriage to Charles Holder to an Amish family in Hartville, OH and the boys and the new family later moved to Texas. Genevieve passed away April 22, 2005 and her obituary does not mention my brothers. She also retired from the Children's Services Board of Ohio in 1984 after 20 years of service. I am hoping someone can help me obtain information on my brothers. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. His grandfather was Jay Morrison McClure. Richard was born in Adams County, Ohio and his father was John Fulton McClure. We have been unable go any farther back than John Fulton McClure. He migrated to Kansas and is buried here. I feel sure that there is a Morrison and a Fulton connection somewhere. I just haven't been able to find it. This probably didn't help but it may be a start. To do so, you may have to prove your own relationship to that person as a "next of kin" by providing your birth certificate or other information. Each state has different rules regarding that. We have a Historical Building down in Columbus, Franklin County Ohio, that has records and copies of documents from all over the state; probably similar to the one you have there. The birth certificate records you are searching for were not mandated until 1908 in Ohio. Suggestions for earlier births have been to find Church records, if you know the affiliation. Marriage records are pretty much the same, some places have licenses as far back as the 1880's held in local court houses. Wish I could be more help. Unfortunately I was not able to find much online. I tried all of the requested sites, but they seem not to have much available online. It looks like I may have to actually go to Ohio to find anything, but I don't think that can happen very soon. It would make for a nice vacation though. At Minnesota's Historical site there is a lot of information available on the internet for free. What I can't find online, I can get at the History Center in St Paul and only have to pay 35 cents for a copy. I don't need certified copies @ $21.50 each. The kind of information I am looking for is: -------------------------------------------------------- Benjamin Franklin Brown: Born 1/1/1825 in PA. Looking for his death record in Shelby, Richland, Ohio (6/14/1896) I can find him on the US census for 1850, 1860, 1870 & 1880. Their Children: (Need Birth record for all of their sons) Chauncy Leslie Brown: b: Apr 5, 1852 in Lorain, Ohio Died: 10/28/1925: I have documentation of his death. Married Mary Sage 1/1/1878 in Crawford Cty. Mary was born in Pennsylvania 6/1/1859. She died 8/18/1894 in Ohio. Need to locate her death record.
